What do you put in your special needs bags?

I’m doing my first race long enough to have special needs bags (Clear Lake 101) and I’m curious what people find useful to put in them. A few things are obvious - additional food & supplements (Perpetuem, Endurolytes, etc. for me), maybe some sunscreen. Maybe a spare tube in case I use the one I’ll have with me on the bike. What else do you find useful?

Chris

The heads of my enemies.

percocet
an extra pair of legs
rocket shoes
a shower
jar of peanut butter
numchucks

That’s about all I’ve compiled for my list so far

Jodi
.

Bike: Supplements extra clothes (saved me at IMOO last year) socks gels vodoo dolls of anybody ahead of me (and of course the pins to stick them with)
Run: Pretty much the same thing except an extra pair of shoes (again, saved me at IMOO last year - shoes were so water logged they weighed over a pound a peice)
.

I love a McDonalds Hamburger in mine. Seriously.

Didn’t somebody have in their sig that they were going to have naked photos of Bea Arthur?

Steve

For LP, I’m planning on adding these as well as some other things already mentioned:

dry socks
Tylenol (just in case)
Tums (again, just in case)
Body Glide
band-aids.

jodi, the numchucks are key!

Rope Butcher knife Football helmet full of peanut butter

Personally, I prefer gopher chucks:

Ok; so far the list looks like:

food
drugs
clothing
personal lubricants
body parts
weapons
small furry animals

I just hope the bags are big enough…

personal lubricants
body parts
weapons
small furry animals

Add a good towel to that list and it’s pretty much everything you need to succeed in life.

dry socks, some yummy candy, pretzel sticks, spare contact lenses, i’ll think of some more while i’m on this boring conference call.

Nah, we’re missing duct tape. Then I think we’ve got ourselves covered.

Jodi

  1. spare tube
  2. extra e-caps (just in case I lose mine on the ride)
  3. Frozen bottle of endurox (chocolate) w/small towel wrapped around it to keep it COLD
  4. and if it’s a cool day, a small bag of cheetos

How could I be so forgetful?

While we’re at it, let’s add a copy of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. You know, in case you start to really panic.

Turnips. At least 9.

Make sure it’s the high speed/aero duct tape.

Mine’s dimpled!

Some people may suggest putting your special secret food in the bag, but I don’t recommend it. Special needs hand offs can be a little hectic, and if you don’t get your bag somehow you don’t want to be up a crick without a paddle.

In mine, I put a spare tube and a spare CO2. No food. No drinks. (I used all the nutrition support the race provided).

I keep it simple because I don’t want to have to depend on my special needs bag.

By the way, some people put clothes in the bag - that has its pros and cons. In some races if you don’t pick up your special needs during the race, you can’t get it afterword. It would suck to loose a bunch of clothes because you put them in your bag and couldn’t get it post race.
