cycling in Colorado is NOT friendly!
I’d be curious to see what the law is going to do with this guy. Toss the book and then some.
man i need some coffee because i read it as “cyclist hit deer on creek canyon” and i started wondering, how did that smash his rear wheel?? wouldnt it then be the deer hit him?
anyways back to the topic
the diver rec a careless driving ticket and was sent on his way.
Lot’s of restraint shown by the folks in this picture.

Wow, that’s sad, based on what was reported, I would think he should at least have gone to jail and the prosecutor should have considered assulat or attempted murder?
I have no idea how these guys stayed so cool…I hope that their restraint is used well by the victim’s lawyer.
I hope that that is not true, anyway the citation should not be the end of it. This is absolutely disgusting. People need to start contacting the Congressman for that district and the States Attorney needs to be petitioned; I just sent both a message, and that will not be the end of it.
You do have to give it to his teammates for not smashing that guy’s face in. Hopefully he gets what is coming to him in prison!
No kidding, I can’t say I’d be so calm.
Damn, I even searched “Deer Creek” before I reposted this link. Sorry for the repeat…
This and Left Hand are the most dangerous climbs in the area, IMHO. Scary drivers.
Jodi
If this was in WV, nothing would happen. The guy that caused my wreck almost killed me, even took off and didn’t stay at the scene and still isn’t being charged with anything. There is a total disregard for cyclist safety in most state laws, and not enoug deterrence through punishment and penalties in my opinion. I hope the riders are ok.

Fantasy.
Sucks to read this. I’m out there all the time. Left Hand is a bit better I think although I did get stuck late in Ward one evening and had to descend it after dark with no lights. That was fun.
Someone needs to compile all of these different reports mentioned here on ST and other forums into one place. If this can be done we may have more leverage with our local politicians to make a difference… It’s sickening that things like this can be pushed off.
Two sides to every story. The driver is apparently going with the “I tried to go around them and he swerved into my bumper.”
No kidding, I can’t say I’d be so calm.
I would have stained his shirt fo sho…
The other cyclist should have jumped this F@cker and kicked his Ass all over the road. It’s always a pick up truck driver too, assholes!! That is why I carry a 357 Magnum holstered under my jersey.
I saw this in another post. I rarely ride Deer Creek canyon. Too many morons, bikes, cars, and motorcycles on that climb. It’s really bad in the summer. Does anyone know if the roadies were riding single file? Riding side by side on this road does nothing but increase the tension between drivers and cyclists.
They have signs up, asking you to ride single file. Very little shoulder that they added over the last few years but trying to pass and give three feet is very difficult on several sections of the climb.
I agree, two sides of every story. Maybe the roadie was trying to get single file at the same time the guy was trying to pass. Just saying. It could be an accident and not intentional. Mybe that’s why they didn’t beat the sh!t out of the guy.
My husband was one in the group of riders that this happened to. The man was honking at them for a long time while they were riding single file on the right side of the road. He was honking for so long that my husband had turned around (he was at the front of the group) and was going to start taking a video of the man honking when the man accelerated and rammed into the rider at the back. After he hit the the rider, the man did stop. When he got out of his car he took the riders bike from under his car and threw it off the road. He showed no concern or remorse for the rider that he hit. He stood there the whole time with a smug look on his face. All the riders were furious, but beating up the guy just makes them look bad when the cops get there. Of course he got off with only a careless driving charge.
