What do you do with CO2 when travelling?

just packing my bike for St.Croix. Can I take CO2 cartridges along the trip? If yes, how? Last time I had them in my carry-on and they took them away from me.

thanks,

daniel

From everything I’ve been told, you can’t bring them along. I’ve heard aweful stories of bike cases being taken apart to remove the cartridges and then the airline personel “stuffing” your gear back into your case. Sounds scary.

Buy them on site when you get there. Any destination race like St. Croix is smart enough to make sure they are available at the expo.

thanks guys. I’ll leave them at home then.

I sneak them into my wifes purse. Then IF they find them. I still get to fly to the race. ; )

Leave em home. Here’s a link to the TSA permitted/prohibited list.

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/Permitted_Prohibited_12_18_2003.pdf

Compressed gas cylinders appear on the prohibited list (both for carry on and checked luggage) on the last page.

The second paragraph of the document states “…you may be criminally and/or civilly prosecuted or, at the least asked to rid yourself of the item.”

I doubt they do much in the way of prosecution for CO2 but why take the chance of getting a pissed off a TSA agent and having them harass you on the way to your race.

Have a good race in ST. Croix !
