What Do You Do When You REALLY Crave Something?

In terms of food/beverage? And I don’t mind you just want it, but thinking about it makes your mouth water. Every time I go down the ice cream isle in the grocery store I want ice cream, but I am always proud of myself for passing it by and by the time I get home I have completely forgotten about it.

But sometimes, you can’t get it out of your head, like today, I would probably kill you for a Caramel Machiatto from Starbucks right now. Sometimes when I crave something I’ll make a deal with myself and have a “lesser evil” but a cup of regular coffee or something won’t do today. I have been training a little more, waking up a little earlier, maybe it’s the caffeine, the cold weather, the sugar, I don’t know, but I REALLY want one.

So what do you do when you really crave something? Try to forget about it? Give in? Make some sort of deal with yourself?

just drink it.

Stuff my cakehole until I feel sick.

jk…I rarely crave anything, and when I do, I just eat/drink it.

A trip to the darkside is essential. Drink it, let it lift you up, envelop you.

Then you’ll realize, “damn I’m at work,” and it will pass into nothingness.

I don’t exclude anything that I like from my diet (with the disclaimer that I’m not much of a dessert/snack food person regardless of my weight situation so that makes it easier). I do control how much and how often but I never tell myself I can’t have something. One trip to Starbucks now won’t do as much damage as blowing up at the ice cream counter when the craving finally wins the fight. Besides, part of a healthy lifestyle is being happy right?

You’re right, I shouldn’t exclude, just moderate…and I can’t remember the last time I had one.

You’re also right that sooner or later the craving will win and a skim latte probably is a lot better than half a gallon of ice cream.

I agree - everything in moderation. I find denying myself doesn’t work very well. Of course moderation is tough this time of year with snacks and junk food everywhere. Oddly I find that I can walk past it all day without having anything, but if I have one bite it’s all over with and the fat boy inside me takes over.

HAHA, I am the same way, I think I just scored some points though. A coworker came around handing out chocolates and before I could say “no thank you” like I always do, she said “I know you eat healthy but it’s the holidays, you have to take some.” I didn’t want to hurt her feelings so I did, but once she left I walked over and gave them to the pregnant lady in the office…score one for the resistance!!!

Screw the moderation. Have a blow out day with the stuff. Mine used to be pizza… Blow Out Saturday, one large meat and cheese demolished. By sticking to my low fat diet the rest of the week after several months I found that I can hardly stand to eat a slice of the stuff. That’s why I’ve decided to keep sex in moderation (yeah, right, that was already decided for me)

Give in - but have the Tall, not the Venti … and if you want the taste only, have a short.

I’ve wasted too many “low cal” calories trying to substitute for a craving, now I just give in, but watch the portion.

For me this year - Startbucks Gingerbread Loaf … I bought a slice, threw half away then ate the remaining half in all its 350 cal glory.

Your macchiato fyi, is not a high calorie treat in the Tall size - only 200 cal without whip.

SwBkRn44 ,

Chances are after a few sips your craving will go away.

I go ahead and eat or drink it (as long as it isn’t an everyday craving). Life is way too short to for me to occasionlly deprive myself of things that I enjoy. Since you said it, I may have to get one of those Caramel Machiatto’s this afternoon.

Usually the only two things I crave are coffee and Johnny Cash songs. When I crave them, I simply indulge.

“… Sooner or later gotta cut you down.”

Chocolate is my personal demon. I guess it is because when I use to smoke, I never really tasted how awesome chocolate tastes. Now that i have all my taste buds back, I can never have just one.

I hear that train a comin…

Kill it! Then eat it.

If it’s a real serious craving (ie. pecan pie mmmm pecan pie…), I will cave instead of obsessing about it…

I used to try to fight it off, but finally figured out that half the time once I caved, I only ended up eating just enough to get a taste anyway.

Life’s too short to spend a day denying yourself a simple pleasure.

No kidding. The other night the gf and I were over at a driends place for dinner/drinks/hot tub/ games night. usually I don’t partake in the yummy desserts and drinks my friend makes but this time I did and what an awesome time I had.
I have to do that more often.

give in once in a while as a reward for working hard in training. Need to sometimes.

work hard and play hard.

Go ahead and have the drink…all that sugar and caffiene should make for a good “fast” run after
