In my youth I used to use lots of NSAIDs to get through injury during sports seasons. Since then I have been decidedly anti-NSAID.

Sometimes you need 'em. When you do, they can be a big help. I think they are over-used, but the occassional Celebrex has been helpful during training.
Haven’t used them in over two years. Pain is a signal your body is trying to give you that something ain’t workin 100%. Deal with it right away naturally now, eat lots of Turmeric, ginger and curry. Natural NSAIDs.
I was once an advil junkie, popped about 5-8 per day. My liver loves me for quitting!
I use them less and less.
Based on what I’ve read, I would never take them before/during/after aerobic exercise when I might be dehydrated.
For DOMS from working out, or well after rehydrating, I’d consider it but probably decide againt.
God’s gift to endurance sports.
I took 2 Vitamin I on the start of the run yesterday, and the tightness and cramping in my lower back went away in like 5 mins.
Since then, it’s been Aleve every 12 hours. I was getting pretty sore an hour ago, and popped another one, and feel much better now.
I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I think that as long as you stay well hydrated, and don’t overdo NSAID use in general, that the risks are minimal (again, this is personal opinion, not medical fact). WHen I got my knee scoped a few yrs ago, the Doc told me that I should use Vitman I prophylactically if I was going to be doing anything where I thought I’d need it for the knee. He’s the head of Ortho Surgery for the hospital, so I’d imagine he has at least a little bit of a clue in this regard.
For years I took 600mg of ibuprofin daily for my knee. If I didn’t, I couldn’t run at all. My stomach finally got to the point where I couldn’t take them any more. Now I am on prescription stuff. Have used Vioxx, Celebrex, Mobic and am about to start on Feldene. I have to switch to Feldene because it is the one Cox-2 inhibitor that my insurance covers. For me these medications work and allow me to run, period. I have tired several of the so called natural NSAIDS and they had zero affect on me. Maybe they work for people whose problem is a mixture of psychological and physcial, but for people with a real physical limitation (no right meniscus for me) they don’t do a thing.
There is also a difference between taking something for pain and taking something as an anti-inflamatory, which is what these are used for, as well as the ibuprofin in larger doses.
I used to pop 600-800mg of Ibuprofen a couple times a day when I was training hard. I had a 500-count bottle of generic ibuprofen. I shudder to think what that was doing to my stomach lining and liver.
I don’t use NSAIDS anymore, mostly because I had to take such a high dosage before I felt any effects. I’d rather feel the soreness and pain, to know if I’m working hard enough or too much.
