This part came with my Dura Ace STI shifters. It was in a separate bag containing the DR cables and the little Hi/Lo gear indicator that mounts up near the right shifter. It is smooth on the other side. My only thought has been that one might use it to router out the ends of the outer cables (it is the diameter of the wire cables. after you cut them, which causes them to collapse a bit.
Wow…never seen that before, then again I avoid all things Shimano. Maybe you can cut it up and use it as cable ends so they dont fray? Maybe it is shop slag that ended up in your packaging…
