I an effort to fight off the post IM depression i keep hearing about, i’m already thinking about the next stack of races and goals i’ll target to stay motivated and not become a fatty good for nothing loser.
starting a week or two after IMLP, i’m going to focus more on running with the ultimate goal of making a good stab at my boston qualifying time in October (Hudson Mohawk marathon in NY state).
Other races: 1/2 IM races in Ottawa and Montreal come September as well as Montreal half marathon. Probably a 40km local time trial just for fun and maybe a team 100km time trial if i can find some people willing to make a good train. Maybe Disney Marathon if i can scrap together the cash and sell enough stuff before it sells out.
Fall: swim swim swim. Join Masters with the ultimate goal of racing in the 1:30’s/100m in 2008 season. Very ambitious goal but that never stopped me.
Very interresting as we have some similar objectives post IMLP…
1/2 Canadian iron in Ottawa followed by 1/2 Esprit in Montreal (Which I already did last year “back to back”) and then PEC Marathon in Mid october to try to qualify for Boston…
Hopefully see you in IMLP, then Ottawa, then Montreal
I plan to make up for all the beer consumption I missed out on over the past 6 months of IM training. Then after a couple weeks of that realize I am getting a beer gut and start training for the Cape Cod Marathon at the end of October and hopefully BQ there.
Is this your first IM? after my first I didnt bike til Oct, then it was only 20km, that was it til the spring! I think having races lined up is a super idea, just be sure that its stuff you can handle and dont get burned out. After you finish (well me at least) I flet like I could do anything and signed up for a lot then had zero will to do them, it was my body telling me to rest already!
But having pst race goals is great, listen to your body. My main goal is to get a BQ in the fall.
Have you done Cape Cod before? That was my first marathon and it is such a great course! Very, very tough, but I’m sure you know that. I’m so jealous! I want to run that one again.
My goal immediatly following IMLP:
Find the greasiest cheeeseburger in town Wash it down with at least 2 VERY cold draft beers Top it off with some sort of apple pie ala mode Follow that up with a late night breakfast of french toast and a very fatty, over-processed breakfast meat (mmmmmm…sausage)
By Tuesday - start training again.
August: 5430 1/2 IM - Boulder Sept: Atomic Man 1/2 IM - Nashville Dec: Turcs and caicos 80 Jan: Phoenix RNR Marathon Next Spring: Boston Marathon (Already Qualified)
(I’m leaving October open, just in case)
Back on the bike in late August, although this time I’ll be cycling easy through the Bordeux region of France with my wife. Nutrition on the bike… wine, bread, cheese
Immediately after IM:
Consume sugary substances in mass quantities – candy bars, oatmeal cream pies, fizzed cold coke, etc.
Down lots of caffeinated pop
After that:
First 50-miler in mid-October. Run more single track including some runs in the dark. In general bump my mileage up from 30-40/week to 40-50/week.
Bike and swim only distances and speeds that I feel like doing, not based on some “need” to get the miles/meters in.
If you are going to Nashville for the Atomic man, you will be about 160 miles off. Atomic Man is just south of Knoxville. Good race. 0 flat parts. All up and down.
