What are your favorite speed laces and why?

I have used Yankz in the past and they were just ok. Are there any other speed lace systems out there that are any better?

I really like the Ultimate Shoelaces: www.ultimateshoelace.com

They’re elastic but have elastic knots in them so you can make your shoe have different tension in the fore, mid, ankle areas for what you like. To install them you just pull them and the elastic knot becomes the width of the rest of the shoelace.

With other brands I felt like I always had to cut off the circulation at my ankle to ensure that they were tight enough. I seem to like a snug fore and mid foot with a slightly looser ankle area.

Very cool and unique design? How much $$$ and do you know of any online retailers? Thanks.

I do like Yankz and they seem to last forever. But I am also curious about other ones.

Thanks

Herbert

We sell them but they’re not in our online store at the moment. They are $6 plus shipping and have lots of colors. Black has been the most popular. I’m currently using a brown/yellow pair as those are the worst selling, hence why I’m using them. Send me a PM to let me know what color you’re interested in and I’ll check the store inventory tomorrow We have most of them I believe.

Another benefit of them is that the elastic is much stronger/thicker than those used in EZ laces (what I used previously). Last year I put them in a pair of shoes and just used every other eyelet. You could also remove them from old shoes if you wanted to.

Hello QuintanaRooster,

I still like the old lace locks. I put the laces through double on the 3rd eyelet up to keep the toe area of the shoe a bit loose and pull the top tight with the lace locks.

Lace Locks are not so easy to find anymore because of the new products like the ones previously mentioned.

My wife found some for me at Joanne’s Fabrics in the Notions department with stated use of locking window cords.

They are very light and come in clear and white.

Cheers,

Neal

I use by the foot 1/8" bungee cord and old fashioned lace locks. Very inexpensive to make and when you buy enough cord, you can put them on shoes for years, transferring the locks.

I also like the simple elastic Yankz (but I modify them and don’t use their cinch mech, just a simple lace lock) with the reflective silver stuff in it. Hate the speedlaces as the screw in eyelets can hurt the top of your foot if you like your shoes tight and/or you are running in racing flats or minimal shoes.

$1.87 elastic laces , available at you local WMT…

where do you buy the bungee cords?

Yankz all the way. I always kill everybody with my transitions. For short course racing I leave the Yankz somewhat loose and just slip my shoes on. For longer races I’ll take a moment and snug them for a little better support.
I’ve tried others and these work best for me.

The speed laces on my Salomon trail running shoes are simply awesome. They are incredibly easy to tighten and untighten and they fit into a neat little pocket on the tongue of the shoe. The cord and plastic hardware aren’t bulky like some of the speed laces I’ve tried. The best part is that they start at the bottom of the shoe and begin in two places so the lace pressure is spread evenly over the entire shoe, unlike most I’ve tried where there are definite pressure points. I don’t know if you can purchase the speed laces alone without purchasing the entire shoe.

Sorry…a Yankz fan here. Just work real well for me and with my rather quick transitions, I’m not switching. Although the Ultimate Shoe Laces with the “frizz” look are pretty interesting…lol

Yes - I have these shoes and laces, too. Would be great if we could buy those for our tri shoes!

I bought the cord from ebay. I looked and I actually used 3/16", which is the same as the yankz and all the others. It is about $10 + shipping for 100ft.
