Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2, obviously. Volume 1 is all hard-bitten Kung Fu/“Wire Fu,” blood, gore, fantastical martial arts (with katana swords to cry over and die for…or from) and Zoe Bell doubling for Uma Thurman during most of the fight scenes. Can’t ask for more than that. Volume 2 masterfully fills in the questions left from Volume 1, with a bit more of the old-style Quentin Tarantino exposition that he’s famous for, a kick-ass Robert Rodriguez and RZA score and an Oscar-worthy performance by David Carradine. And that chick fight between Uma Thurman (and Zoe Bell, again, who doubles her) and Darryl Hannah is one of the best on film, as far as chick fights go.
Add the fact that my wife loves watching it, too, and it’s all good, bay-bee!!

hey, that’s awesome big k. i’ve never seen those myself, but with that cool reco, i certainly will!
I love Tarantino’s work. And Jackie Brown, if you’ve never seen it, is worth a Saturday night rental.

In the same vein of tough chicks, try The Long Kiss Goodnight. Geena Davis as an amnesiac assassin and Samuel L. Jackson as a down a the heels private detective thwart evil domestic terrorist plot. Simply enjoyable from start to finish.
hey does Geena Davis ice skate in part of that movie, and get dunked under water?
it sounds familiar…
hey big k, i love jackie brown! funny you mentioned it, been feeling like renting it. what other QT films?
My favorite movie rentals are movies I have not seen and want to see.
But I am always happy when I can see (on top of my head):
Jason Bourne movies
Tarentino movies
Blast from the past
No Country for Old Men
James Bond (especially the first 5 ones with Sean Connery)
Fred

Davis ice skates and takes an ice cold underwater dunking in *The Long Kiss Goodnight. *Personally, I loved that movie, though plenty of critics panned it when it came out back in '96.
For Q.T. films, the classic of all time is of course *Pulp Fiction. *And never forget *Reservoir Dogs, *which has Christopher Penn, Sean Penn’s brother, in it plus Michael Madsen, Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth.
The one that came out in '07 that he did with Robert Rodriguez is called *Grindhouse Presents: Planet Terror, *and *Death Proof. *Depending upon your generation, *Planet Terror *should remind you of those early '70s drive-in or seedy theater “dollar for two movies” films, which it does me (being born in 1960). I like *Death Proof *more than Planet Terror, mainly because of Kurt Russell and Zoe Bell, who actually gets to act in this one (though she plays herself, which is a movie stuntperson). The soundtrack for both of the movies is fantastic.
You know, he cameos in a number of movies including Robert Rodriguez’* Desperado*. And he’s totally off-the-hook in From Dusk Till Dawn, where he’s one of the titled actors. I love that guy, fah schizzle!!

That’s the one!
Taken with Liam Neeson is an enjoyable piece of escapism, it’s along the lines of Ransom but better. Also, the City of God series from Brasil should be looked at.
Dusk 'till Dawn is on one of the “worst films ever” list. but that was years ago, i could try it again. thanks for the reco on Planet Terror, i’ll rent that too.
i love it when Davis ice skates and gets dunked!
Yes there are very few good written and acted films these days. There are MANY great movies made in the past that stand the test of time.A well written/acted film with great cinematography holds its own to most of todays horrible scripts and cardboard actors an over the use of techno gimmicks.
Here is my eclectic list:
Lust for Life (1956) Van Gogh story,K.Douglas,A.Quinn. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049456/ **Como agua para chocolate( Like water for chocolate)**1992 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103994/ Sjunde inseglet,Det (The seventh seal) 1956 I.Bergman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050976/ Sunset Blvd. 1950 Director: billy wilder W.Holden & G. The Big lebowski 1998 The Dude abides!!! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118715/
I am going to have to go with “Anal Sorority 3”
The first two were just missed something, but the third they hit it right on the head. And what a suprise ending! Wasnt expecting that.
Dusk 'till Dawn is on one of the “worst films ever” list. but that was years ago, i could try it again. thanks for the reco on Planet Terror, i’ll rent that too.
I think *From Dusk Till Dawn *was deliberately meant to be taken in a camp, tongue-in-cheek, sort of way. Certainly the cast and crew was stellar enough. Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Julette Lewis, and of course Salma Hayek, as that hottie vampire queen. Being honest, I think that’s why most guys rent the film (for her “scenes”). To me, it’s a popcorn Saturday night flick. Nothing too serious and nothing too “auteur” about it.
Not that Geena Davis did a single thing that in any way resembles actual special warfare or special operations, but she made a cool superspy. And Jackson is the whip in the role of dissolute ex-cop Mitch, who seems to want to redeem himself along the way. *The Long Kiss Goodnight *was one of two films she did with her husband at the time, Renny Harlin. The other one was Cutthroat Island. I thought Frank Langella – who recently played Richard Nixon so well he should’ve received the Oscar for it – was great as Davis’ movie uncle, “Dog,” who didn’t have a shred of familial lover for her, that’s for sure ![]()
Speaking of Harlin, he also did the '93 action flick Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone. The movie baddie in that one, John Lithgow, is the BOMB when it comes to snarky evil. Of course, Harlin also did The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, but I’m willing to let him take a mulligan on that abortion of a movie (hahaha!)

Big fan of Tarantino, especially the two Kill Bills, Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. I also liked Death Proof better the Planet Terror, especially when Zoe Bell said “I want a ‘Vanishing Point’ car!” - now THAT movie is awesome, one of my favorites as a kid and one that I now pop the DVD in for trainer rides.
