What are we listening to tonight?

They are awesome. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I had never heard of them.

The new Mastodon album “Marrow Deep”, the first after the death of guitarist Brent Hinds, is solid. Nothing earth shattering - it’s Mastodon and sounds like them, which is a good thing. I dig it.

I’m on Kat Jones’ mailing list, and she linked to a live jazz performance she did on a couple of songs with Kannon at The Underdog in Nashville. She’s got a powerful live voice, and it sounds like they had to dial her down in the mix.

In the days after 9/11, Bruce Springsteen was out driving. A man pulled up next to him at a light, rolled down the window and said “We need you, Boss!” This is the result….

Brilliant song. The Boss delivered.

I don’t like this song much as it’s a much darker commentary on those days.

There is a fully instrumented version of the song, but here is the original acoustic version. 🅴

One of the best albums of the decade and a personal favorite from that period of my life of chaos.

Thirty years old today, released 9/17/1996.

A side project for a few members of Dawes, Rick from Goose, and a few others. Their 1st album comes out in October.

Obviously I immediately thought of you. Released this morning:

“Growing up… watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that’s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at. Teenage love, ain’t it grand?”

Doing makeup at the mall like bad tattoos
Sterile eyes get blue applied persuasions
Trash heap, suburbs, no escape, not much to lose
Tongue tied, wrist tied, corset tight, I wanna

Never felt so alive as the day I almost died
If you only knew
What only the goth girls do

People like chewed bubble gum float in the pool
Smokin’ cloves, you the black cat’s pyjamas
Are you really merry when you go round and round?
I’ll hold back your halo while you vomit

Never felt so alive as the day I almost died
If you only knew
What only the goth girls do

Where the goth girls play
Sun don’t chase them all away
Sun don’t chase them all away
Sun don’t chase them all away
Sun don’t chase them all away
Sun don’t chase them all away

From some reason “Adam Raised A Cain” started playing in my head towards the end of my run this afternoon

Awesome, thanks for the link.

The sun has set on October 1, we are in the Spooky Season

Off we go!!!

Yeah, that’s my house in the thumbnail - I will update it when this year’s decorations are complete

I started the playlist at 37 tracks, but I keep adding to it, as I hear or think of things “hey! This should be on there!!!”

So, it’s gotten a little … lengthy

Here’s a word about my ex-girlfriend
Towards the end conflict off and on
And I told her one night, “Honey every time we fight
I’ll write a verse to this song.”

Well, things got bad, things got worse
Still I struggled on
So sit back and get all comfortable
'Cause this little tune’s six fucking hours long

“Land’s Edge” -DLR

Listening tonight, a couple things occurred to me which I never thought of before

“Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” - Warren Zevon

When Roland found Van Owen “he blew away his body” Do you think Roland took Van Owen’s head to replace his own, in a Sleepy Hollow kinda way?

“Love Vigilantes” - New Order

I always assumed he was a ghost come home

When I walked through the door
My wife she lay upon the floor
And with tears her eyes were sore
I did not know why
Then I looked into her hand
And then I saw the telegram
Said that I was a brave, brave man
But that I was dead

Maybe the telegram was sent in error, and he was alive the whole time?
