this pic is from the World Duathlon Championships… what is this guy wearing on his legs? I assume it is some type of stabilizer for muscles, tendons???
Yes. It’s a Japanese thing. They sell it by the truckload. I guess it helps “stabilize” leg muscles? Keeps it tight? IMO, purely psychological.
And it looks gay.
but then again…he’s in front.
Those gravitation field mesmerizers. See his feet? Never closer than 6 inches from the ground at any time…works well for Clydesdales, too, but it just keeps them at ground level instead of making indentions in the pavement ![]()

it’s a technique pioneered by a Japanese doctor some years ago. it’s only just now making its way into the US. it lifts the top layers of skin to increase blood and lymph flow to an area. in my case, I have some recent surgical scars, and it’s been very helpful in making them less sensitive from all the scar tissue built up underneath. it has also had some use in treating an edema (scary, fancy term for swelling) on my shin from a fascial tear. I’ve heard it used to relieve pain from pinched nerves, too. while it is not a magic bullet, some of the therapists at the hospital have seen rather dramatic results over a wide range of symptoms.
Gilberto Simoni was seen wearing similar tape on his knee at the Giro. I suspect that’s kinesiotape, too. I do know the USPS team uses it.
