Probably the weirdest swag combination I’ve received was in Japan, but where else would you expect?
Ironman Japan, early '90s:
T-shirt: Tasteful, interesting but understated design, with just one small sponsor logo.
Ceramic bowl: Again tasteful, with traditional looking Japanese motifs.
Sleeveless, layered zip-up jacket: Too ugly to accurately describe, apparently designed after watching early '80s music videos, possibly Eye of The Tiger or Final Countdown. Only ever been worn at '80s themed fancy dress parties.
Cycling cap: You know the type European cyclists wore up until the '70s, with a short peak about an inch wide that sticks up so it won’t blow off while riding? White with a black-and-white chequered-flag strip down the middle.
Moxa: Lots of moxa, that Asian acupuncture remedy that is placed on the skin and set alight to emit a pungent yet supposedly therapeutic smoke.
