What is the best option?
- profile aero bottle up front?
- bontrager/arundel aero frame bottle?
- regular water bottle on the frame?
What is the best option?
#1 and #3. #2 is a good thing if you are going a distance that is long enough to drink on, but not so long that you would need a second refill. If you are doing a supported Tri, then you want a aero bottle up front to drink out of, and a regular bottle to refill it. You want your regular bottle to be one that you can throw away as you enter a aid station and get a new bottle. The new bottle that is supplied by the race is then poured in to your aero bottle up front when it gets empty. The problem with #2 is that you will never be given a bottle in that shape on a supported tri. If you want to use your own special drinks after your initial bottles are empty, then carry either your favorite powder or concentrated glop and get straight water at the aid stations and mix them on the fly. OK, here is the situation:
I have one Bontrager aero bottle on frame and one aero up front for half distance. I get 1 refill at the aid stations and good to go.
Now the races I am doing have all 3 aid stations, instead of hitting one aid station should I ditch one bottle and hit two aid stations? And another option i am thinking is getting a regular cage for the frame instead of bointrager aero bottle/cage. This way it wilbe easier to use it and i can throw away the empty bottle and put in the gatorade i pick from aid station???
Forget the aero bottle and get a regular cage, much more flexible – any bottle will fit.
How about a Neverreach. I love my, very dorky, NR. I am considering an aerobottle on the downtube for a '‘just in case.’
For IM and HIM, I use a Jetstream and one bottle on the seat tube. I top the Jetstream off with water at the aid stations and have a concentrated carb solution in the seat tube bottle. For a IM I have a 2nd bottle with carb solution at special needs.
For a oly I just carry a bottle on the seat tube.
Depending on the distance,
