I just want to gloat about this weekend. I had a 12k race Sunday, set a pr and had a great time doing it. Today went for a 40mile bike ride with my wife along the St Lawerence river. The weather was 70f for the high for both days. I hope you had as much fun as I did this weekend. . Life can be great .
Friday was okay, but it started raining Friday night. It rained all day Saturday. I was supposed to do my first tri of the year Saturday - washout. Rained most the day Sunday, but during a couple hour lull, I went for a quick run and got poured on with about 2 blocks to go. I went out on the MTB early this afternoon. It was nice and sunny when I left. When I got as far away from home as I could, storm clouds blew in. Nice cold wet ride home, INTO the wind with gusts around 29mph - lots of fun.
My sister came over from Ireland to visit me, so I spent the weekend showing her the sights so she’d appreciate why Sydney is a great place to live.
As for tri-stuff, well I started my beginner’s 10K training program last night with a 2.4km run. Went well, felt good, that’s all I can ask for at this stage.
I had planned for a nice ride and run today, however, ended up stuck on a mud flat during low tide in a boat for 4 hours - NOT good. Last nice day of the week for us here it seems (at least until thur), and didn’t get to do anything.
Saturday: Run along the waterfront; drive up to Calistoga (Napa County wine country), sit in hot mineral whirlpool; go to triathlete wedding at winery; great time had by all.
Sunday: Wake up to email from Brazil from boys saying all 4 finished, two their first IM. Yea!!! Ride an hour, 45 along the Silverado Trail with a big smile on my face. Utterly gorgeous day. Back to hotel, lay by pool, sit in hot pool again. Check out of hotel, go to lunch, then stock up on wine at Van der Hayden Winery. Drive back to SF.
Monday: Get new training plan, get all excited to resume training. Swim, then ride. Dinner out in North Beach (the Italian area), followed by latte and dessert at cafe.
I had a great weekend all to my self while my wife was in London. Though I did miss her.
Friday: 2 mile swim followed by a 30 mile bike ride (I got caught in a torrental downpour so I had to cut it short).
Saturday: 100 mile ride and beautiful nap afterwards.
Sunday: 18 mile run followed by easy 25 mile ride.
Monday: 70 mile ride with a buddy in the park.
I also finished an introduction to a re-release of a friend’s book of excellent poems on Sunday night (entitled “Road Movies,” see amazon.com) and I woke up to a wonderful e-mail from him telling me how much he liked it.

Sorry I just had to much fun ! Thom aka Dirtball
Great work, sounds like fun, especially the Sunday ride in the sun after a great race on Saturday.
Here’s some gloating of my own. Watched the Giro on the Mortirolo - that’s beyond description, has to be ridden to be believed. Over the weekend rode Mortirolo, Stelvio, Gavia and Bormio 2000. Kicked my fat winter arse back into shape that’s for sure. Pretty mindblowing stuff up there in the Italian Alps, different again to what I’ve seen in French Alps and Pyreneees.
Pretty good weekend. Did some serious business and a few good rides. Watched an enormous, 2 hour parade in front of our store for Memorial Day and watched the movie “The Longest Day” about the D-Day invasion. Pretty nice.
Sunday I watched the world champs duathlon in Geel in Belgium. BTW Quite a lot of americans participated.
Yesterday I had quite a good race in Woerden NL. It was a quarter race with 1000meter swim, 40k bike and 10k … got a 1th place in the 40 agegroup. 2.00.33.
I changed a few things on the bike after reading the bike-setup articles. this is the old version in nieuwkoop one week ago.
My weekend sucked. Spent it studying for the CFA exam taking place around the world on Saturday. Five more days till freedom (for six months anyway). Any other candidates on the forum? Anyone sitting in London? Anyone…?
We finally had a semi-nice weekend here in Southern Ontario. Sunny, but still a little cool.
Saturday: Cycled 120K up to my cottage in Muskoka. Longest ride for me since I got off the bike at IMC in 1997. Headwinds all the way. Cool temps - had to keep arm-warmers, knee-warmers and vest on for the whole ride. Felt great for most of the way until the final hour, when headwinds were at their worst. I love point-to-point rides like this, but not into a wind the whole way. A character builder as they say.
Sunday: Built a knew sand-box for the kids at the cottage in the morning. Went out for about 80K ride in the afternoon on quite roads around the cottage. Very pleasant. No wind. Hitched a ride back to the city with my sister and brother-in-law after a great dinner of bar-b-que’s ribs.
got to MTB in Moab for three days. It was pretty amazing
Slick Rock Trail? Spider Mesa? Verde Mesa? Monitor and Merrimac? And I can’t remember the name but it starts northwest of the Arches park, passes by the dinosaur tracks (way cool) and ends up on the west edge of Arches overlooking some very nice goblin structures. There are more than a few things I miss about Utah.
Friday, swimming 4 x 1000 yd main set, for a lark I did the first one all out in 14:30 which was 38 seconds faster than my previous best during a r&r week in March. Quite happy considering I did a 5 1/2 hr double brick the day before. Saturday afternoon, mile repeats on the high school track, 70 degrees, sunny (a bit breezy ~10 mph). Managed a couple of sub 7 minute miles for the first time since starting back up last year. Trashed legs afterwards, though. Sunday, first official 100 miler (ever). Temps were low 70’s, sunny, again consistent wind but surprisingly more tailwind then headwind! Flatted 1.5 miles from home and walked tha last bit (T-walk?) Still, I hit 101.2 on the odometer, plus I got to skip the half-mile 9 percent slope right in front of me (my neighborhood is a bit of a killer.) Monday, went to the theater with my family and watched Shrek 2. Funny show. Now, it is taper time! Two weeks to Blackwater Eagleman. I felt totally trashed yesterday, I think I am right where I want to be. Oh yeah, got the e-mail from Columbia Tri Association yesterday, my swim wave this year is third from the last (of eleven). We don’t start until after 8 am. Aaarrrrrgghhhhh.
I actually managed to stay fairly dry. On Saturday I drove up to St. Cloud to scout the Apple Duathlon course. Drove through some heavy rain but it was not raining at all in St. Cloud. Rode the bike course and did 1 lap of the run course. Then drove through more heavy rain to get back home.
On Sunday, I rode down to the UofM Natatorium for lap swim. It wasn’t raining but roads were wet. It was sunny when I got done swimming but clouds moved in and it started raining about 5 minutes after I got home

Heard that last night while mowing my lawn, thought how true. Had a great bike ride in a new area on Saturday, a brick that went as fast or faster than what I had hoped “race pace” would be in mid-July, and a nice easy run yesterday. Wife was in a good mood. Went for a bike ride on a bike trail with my soon-to-be four-year-old, he had a ball. In NY myself…had some nice 70 degree weather most of the weekend.
did my first double century this past weekend up in hartwell, GA. both days is started/finished at the same spot but the second day took us up near the mountains–lots of rollers–made it a tough day. had a beautiful paceline of 6-7 people on both days and had pretty good cloud cover both days. did a run after each ride. that gives me 3 century rides in 3 weeks–not bad for a whineyass!!!

My wave is 4th. Say hi as you go buy. It always pisses me off when you old guys burn by me on the bike.
