I’ve heard lots of comments on this board and from others about the hilliness of the Wildflower course. Just wanted to check if people ever think it makes sense to do this in a standard road bike position with no aerobars.
If I’m going to spend a significant amount of time changing my gearing on the rollers and climbing out of the saddle I’d guess I’ll perform better in a standard road setup without aerobars.
Are you talking Oly or long course? for the long course, there’s plenty of opportunity to get down on the aero bars and cruise. You will definitely benefit from having them. I can’t speak to the Oly course.
I’m taking the tri bike, no questions asked. After the Oly turn around there is a good chunk of false flat to just cruise on the bars, then that 4-5 mi down hill on the back stretch. Its definitely not technical enough to need a road bike. When I was there a few weeks back it was kinda breezy on the back stretch, would not have wanted to be there without the aero bars.
