I’m 6"1’ and weigh 140 pounds and I have found Orca wetsuits to be the best fit. I don’t really fit into any catergory on their sizing chart. But I have found the Predator (size 5) and a size 4.5 speedsuit to fit me perfectly.
Sorry to hear about your fiasco with the rental wetsuit.
Most of the suits that you can rent are unfortunatly low-end suits or beat up old ones. These suits are not very accomodating due to the lack flexibility in their neoprene. To fit well in one of these suits you need to be dead-on in the size range for that particular size suit.
The higher-end suits, in particular most manufacturers top end suits, are much more forgiving in terms of fit, mostly because the neoprene used is significantly more flexible. Also the suits are cut and shaped better. People at the either edge of a size range will almost always find a better fit in the higher end suits by dropping down or up one size depending on your situation.
You are built similar to me( I am 6’2" and about 160 - skinny!) and I fit well into a Nineteen Frequency in size M which has a weight range of 160 - 175 LBS. This suit fits me like a second skin, as it should.
I am 6’5" and 180 (i know i am huge! :))
Desoto T1 also, tried an Xterra but had to go with XL for length and the rest fit like my flanel pajamas!
go desoto you’ll be happy.
Jeff,
You are built very similar to quite a few pros that we have sponsored over the years and will fit perfectly in our size- Small Long. (In fact, we have a 2 week guarantee which will allow you to swim in the suit to ensure that you have the right size and model)
We have a 20% off all 2007 VORTEX 2 Wetsuits sale which will be featured in Triathlete Magazine in the next couple of days. Email me and I’ll send you the discount code early.
Hope this helps.
take care
Keith
QR Hydrofull size medium
I am about 6’3" 162
Rappstar is basically the same size, but somehow he fits into a M or MS QR. I guess that is why he is a pro and I am not.
I’m 6’2 170-175 and I’m wearing a MS QROO Superfull. I was pretty skeptical that it would fit but the rubber is SUPER stretchy and it feels great.
As has been mentioned, a higher end suit will be more flexible.
I am 6’ and 150 pounds and swim in the Orca Apex 2 size 6. Just get one that fits for the weight and don’t worry about the length of the suit.
