Wetsuit time

Yes, it is the off season so I am looking at all the purchases for the new year.

I currently own a QR Hydrofull or superfull. A great wetsuit but it seems to get nicks and tear quite often/easily. Yes, I am like a pitbull in a China closet but it should not be THAT easy to damage.

I hear really good things about the DeSoto two piece combination. I was also looking at maybe going for an older Orca PFlex. I know some companies are going away from buoyancy and working on the hydrodynamics of the wetsuit. It seems like they would go hand in hand, kinda.

I am a MOPer especially in the swim. I churn about a 6:45 in 400 meters. I can stay pretty consistent with that time for the longer distances if I don’t swim in the Z formation.

Is the DeSoto the next best thing since sliced bread? Is there much true difference between the PFlex and Apex2/3.8?

Anyone sharing information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I have a 3 year old DeSoto T1 top and Tres bottom. The nicest things about the DSS suits is that the neck is low, so there’s none of the choking feeling, and the stretchy Yamamoto rubber and separate top make for zero shoulder issues. The newer ones are suppposed to have even more shoulder freedom.

Everyone says one should practice in the wetsuit to get used to the different feel. I don’t feel a significant difference. Yes, I take it to the pool to practice, maybe twice a year. Don’t notice. (One other god thing, is that if the water is a little warm (like the 75deg Rose Bowl competition pool) I can just pull the bottom of the top open and let in some cool water.
