Wetsuit Questions (1)

How much water typically enters the neck area of a wetsuit? Does it accomulate around the lower torso and upper legs? I noticed when I got out of the water after the first lap at IMFL that my suit was hanging a little around that area. The pictures seem to almost confirm that I had taken on some water and it stayed there. The funny thing is that the suit is hard to get on and seems to be too small when putting on? I guess I need to investigate getting a better fitting suit. I am 6’3 and 200 pounds. Has anyone experienced this? The suit is a lower end TNT Orca.

The water accumulation you are characterizing is odd. None of my suits take on that much water. I wonder if the suit may be the right size from the company size chart, but the cut of the suit is just not suited for you.

Another factor may be that you’ve lost some weight.

In any case, there should be very little water accumulation in an optimally fitted suit.

very little water should be in the suit. If I pull the neck on mine to let water into the suit on purpose, hardly any will stay in it and the excess kinda flushes out the bottom. Seems weird that it would be hard to get on but have this issue. How old is the suit? Is it stretched or sagging in certain areas when dry?

I think alot of it depends on two factors-

  1. How tightly you wear the neck
  2. How much water flushes in the zipper

I use a DeSoto T1 and the neck is fairly snug, and with the two-piece design, any water that might get in can drain out the bottom, but not much gets in.

It is two years old. It does not sag when dry. I need to head to the local open water swimming hole and check it out again. I have IMAZ coming up. I intended to make it to the gatorade swims at Florida but didn’t make them. I understand 2XU was letting people try out their suits for purchase.

If you are even thinking about it as a problem, I think that you should buy a new one. Whenever I have any doubts about equipment it usually bothers me to the point that I need to replace it. Also fun to get new stuff. Besides, it is a good time of year to get deals on wetsuits
