Back from the wet and mud that was this year’s Wildflower. I didn’t race today, as I am just do not have enough training in and Wildflower is not a race to do unprepared.
Drove down Friday in the sun until about 10 miles from where you turn
off Hwy. 101 and it started raining. Kept raining until about 8AM
Saturday morning. It rained really, really hard at 2AM Friday
night/Saturday AM and the wind blew enough to shake my truck. Got up Saturday AM and everyone doing the LC was pretty much moping around because of the weather. Some people put on their wetsuits to ride down to the TA in the downpour. Those of us not racing had breakfast, then walked down towards the race site at the first break in the weather. Clouds, sun, rainbow, rain, clouds, sun, rain, repeat this cycle until about 5PM. We had a joke that this was the “AntiSocial WF”, since everyone was in their tents/cars out of the rain, or the “Bonding WF” as four of us stood nice and close under one umbrella. Totally miserable Friday night. Saturday night was better and a lot more fun.
Had a delightful time Saturday afternoon hanging out with Dan E. Got to see Mike Plumb, but didn’t get my beer. Next time! Eric–Too bad I missed you, but had a nice chat with your wife. Best thing was that I got to see all my SoCal buds, which really was the point of going down to WF anyway.
