Western States 100 roll call

Not racing personally (I swore this type of event off after the 90’s) , but will be there with my wife pacing a first timer. Looks mercifully cooler than usual and no snow in the high country. Could be a very good year to buckle or finish. We are going to go to Duncan Canyon aid station first (23 mi.) rather than Robinson Flat (29). Then to Dusty Corners (38), Michigan Bluff (55.7) and Foresthill (62) before beginnig the pacing duty. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Hinds57 will be there crewing for Lon Freeman.

Yeah, the same Lon Freeman that ran his way in to 3rd at Ultraman behind our own Jonas Colting a couple years back, also the same Lon Freeman who killed it at the Miwok 100K earlier this year.

He’s from Seatlle right? What is it with all the really fast Ultra runners coming out of Seatlle lately? Eugene and Bend, Ore. also seem to be a breeding ground for Ultra studs.

I predict a double Oregon win, Rod Bien and Kami Semick, both from Bend. Kami stunned Nikki Kimball at Miwok in her 100k tune up.

No Lon is from the East Bay here. Super great guy (and an ultra pusher to boot!) Rod B. is another super great guy. Good luck to both of them. An ex-STer is one of Rod’s pacers.

I’m pacing from Greengate. 3rd straight year going out and I cant wait. This is such an amazing event.

I’ll be working at the Forresthill aid station. Good luck to all those running and pacing.

Not doing, but a friend from work is. Since I am not going to SJIT, I might drive over and say hi to folks, since
the finish is only 20 minutes from my house.

Dave

Doing something like this oddly appeals to me.

PDXJohn,
Like John said I am crewing for Lon Freeman #16. It should be a long and fun day. But crewing is a lot more fun then running 100 miles.
It looks like the temp will be going down to the low 80’s from the mid 90’s on Saturday. There is no snow at all from what I have heard so it should be the best conditions in years.

Cathy and John.
I will be doing the e-mail update thing like I did at Ultraman and MiWok. You want me to add you to the list?

Dave

im supposed to be crewing, it will be my first time at western states, but I have crewed at leadville and hardrock.

Yes please. The work address so I can check the BB after our ride Saturday.

Have fun!

Have you seen this?

700 pictures of the trail with maps and course profiles. Totally amazing that someone would take the time to do this.

Hopefully I will see you at the one of the aid stations or at least the finish. I will have my trailer (22’ Nash with some “Go Lon!” signs that my kids made in the windows) in the parking lot at the finish and cold beer in the fridge if you get there before I have a chance to drink it all myself.

Dave Hinds

I have half a mind to drive up after our ride on Saturday.

“I have half a mind to drive up after our ride on Saturday.”

Cool, I will bring more beer!

Dave

Let me know if you do that, J and I should be on our way back from Tahoe…

Let me think about it. I’ll call you if I do.

Katy: Want to run with me on Sunday???

Yes. Where?

On the trails! We’ll be in running paradise. With hills.

I might get lost.

The Western is on my wish list, in the maybe/I must be nuts category!!!
