Westchester Triathlon (1)

Registration opens for the Westchester Triathlon Tomorrow. I was thinking about trying this race but want to ask a few questions first.

How is this race? Is it worth the $175? I’m not quick enough for an Alcatraz slot. Any other thoughts?

i dont think any oly is worth $175. unless you are going to make a vacation to somewhere nice and warm and scenic. nothing scenic really about this race. i live here and train on the course all the time. its nothing special. just my two cents

Is there another oly in the area in the latter half of the season? I’ll be doing 2 sprints in June and want to step up to an oly before the end of the year. Was thinking of Westchester but if there’s something better…

ITP man in stamford. supposed to be a challenging bike course. have not done this race myself tho.
westchester is also very hard to get into. it generally sells out in 2hrs and active.com is always busy.

Mighty Hamptons is in September. Great race.

In the NYC area $175 is not terrible. I paid $225 for NYC is July. As someone mentioned the ITPman in Stamford, Its in Darien (town next to Stamford) and its not a full olmpic, (1/2 mile swim, 15 bike and 5 mile run). Course is not very hard.

Both prices are ridiculous and make The Toughman Half on 9/13 for $225 look like a bargain.

sorry, but; not worth it. There’s an oly in Bridgeport, CT - Mossman Park City in late Aug but I gave that up too. It’s $100. Scenic, closed course in beach area, but; it’s a 5 loop bike course! Loops should theoretically make things cheaper - less intersections to close, aid stations… just not worth the $$ for me.

good luck

did it a couple of years ago, they shortened the swim for no good reason (the sun I think?), the bike course was challenging but just took you around the neighborhood as I remember, and run the run course was a little short too I think. Regardless it was still a fun race and I had a great time. For the price they did give out a lot of stuff. I got a bag, a bunch of water bottles, and a finishers medal (if this excites you). Would I do it again? No, there are plenty of other races to do and I don;t like to do the same one to many times unless it really impresses me.

did you sign up?

I decided to pass. I didn’t feel like spending the money. It sold out pretty quickly.

I ended up signing up for Westchester. Sag Harbor would end up being much more expensive (hotel) but was tempting.

where do you live?

I’m still debating to sign up for this race even though I’ve already registered for Toughman 2 weeks prior. The charity slots are now available for @$250, $75 more than individual registration.

I’ve debated doing this race. I grew up in the area so I have to agree with other posters who have said the course is nothing special…I can’t imagine where it would be to make it special…and even though I wouldn’t have to pay for a hotel (family still there), that price tag gives me pause. Even an anarchist tells his kids they can’t jump on the bed. Seriously. I take that price tag as confirmation of why I left the area and never looked back.

Speedy, thanks for supporting our race. I have been working hard since sept 22nd of last yr to make this yr’s race bigger and better. To make things more cost effective we are having bag pickup on race morning this yr as well.
see you raceday.

where do you live?
