Am I the only one to have just discovered this group? I found out about them because they’re coming to protest at my high school because it has a gay/strait alliance.
Holy crap this is disturbing

That Reverend Fred Phelps and his crowd have been around for awhile. They protested the vigils that were held for Matthew Shepard, the gay college student who was murdered up in Laramie, WY. They are of the “Thank God for 9/11” mindset.

What does George Strait have to do with this?

beats me?
They have been protesting military funerals for some time. Check out the “God Hates Fags” website. Wackos.
You’ll probably only get a slap on the wrist if you take a fire hose to them.
If there is any group that can unite democrats and republicans it’s these fucks.
Pulled this one out of the mothballs…still pretty funny.
The problem with those guys is that they have a family full of lawyers and will sue your butt off if you give them the beating they deserve or do anythign resembling libel/slander of their group.
They run around and protest pretty much any catastrophe as “the will of god” and “Punishment for offending god”. Last time I saw them pop up was when they were scheduled to protest at a vigil right after the NIU shootings.
At that time I looked at their site and it would appear that they have a rather full schedule of protesting various places and throw in the catastrophes when they arise.
I’m quite surprised they’ve not been beaten to death, seriously. You don’t “Protest” at someone’s funeral who was just murdered by a mass killer and not have someone flip out.

A friend sent me a link a few weeks back where this same group came to a highschool that had a gay homecoming queen/king. The students and teachers rallied and pulled together a counter protest that wiped out the church protesters. You could probably find the article or blog on Google.
If you know these folks are coming it would be great to get about 1000 of your fellow students. teachers, neighbors, even clergy to stand across the street with signs for love, peace, and tolerance - shouting over the church crowd. Make a big deal out of it. Call the local radio station, ask them to spread the word.

How True!

What I find ironic is that these so called “Christians” put grieving families through such agony with their bullshit. They are one of only a few very good arguments IMHO for restrictions on free speech. Sometimes taste and manners should win out.
This is old. There were here in Boise in summer, 2005 to protest at the funeral of a local female soldier killed by an IED in Iraq. If I remember correctly, hundreds of people showed up to block their protest from the family and the service.
They are sick freaks.
These folk are exactly the same as the extreme fanatics from any other religion - including the ones we in the West often caricaturize all members of the Muslim faith as being, for example.
Most Christians, Jews, Muslims, Brahmans, Taoists, Buddhists, etc are good people who only want peace and harmony for themselves and those they love. Then there are the psychotics that can be of any faith, who go around blowing up abortion clinics, terrorizing the funerals of fallen soldiers, and crashing airplanes into buildings.
It’s a sad, sick place to be…
I was traveling a few weeks back and talked to a guy from the “Patriot Brigade” (if I remember the name correctly). They were a group of motorcycle riders who would travel to funerals of service members to stand watch over the funeral. If I understand, they started because of the westboro idiots.
The guy I met was riding his bike in cold weather, and had about a 12 hour drive - one way.
One story I later heard from someone was that they would position their Harleys near the westboro people. Everytime the westboro people started to shout something, they would rev their Harley - drowing out anything that was said. I find it heartbreaking that they would have to do this, but refreshing that they cared enough for strangers to give of their time and money. I vowed to buy gas and a meal for the next guy I met who was part of the “Brigade”. My hat is off to them.
They are evil and are not Christians.
I’m sure every last one of them is convinced they are.
Your walk talks lounder than your talk.
The sad thing is, they would agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s all a matter of perspective.
