Hi - I just moved to WH and looking for any tri friendly group rides and or people who are looking for someone to train with. Also, I hear Newington Bike shop is a quality shop, does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks so much for the advice, it’s much appreciated
Check CTHEAT.ORG or send me a pm
Pretty decent tri scene. Lots of IM finishers. Welcome aboard.
Newington Bike is the best tri bike shop around this area. They aren’t exclusively tri, but they sponsor the two local tri series at Lake Terramuggus and Cedar Lake, and their staff is good with Trek and Felt. They’ve been inside and out of my Speed Concept and always do nice work. If you’re already here there’s a nice Oly on Saturday put on by these guys. It’s on their website. Cheap, too at 80 or 90 bucks.
Welcome to CT!

Another quality shop in the area that deals with Cannondale and Cervelo is Cycling Concepts out of Rocky Hill and Glastonbury. I deal with Dave in the Rocky Hill store…always top notch service there and a great knowledge base.

I’ve been happy with most of the bike shops in the area. I bought my Kilo on sale last year from Bicycles East in Glastonbury and have been very happy with the setup (they didn’t do a full fit on me but he took a couple of hours to get me in a decent position which has served me well in the lead-up to IMMT).

*edit: They sell Trek and QR (among others)

X2 on Cycling Concepts in Rocky Hill and their staff. Dave and Sondre are awesome. This is my preferred LBS and I come from New Haven 35min away.
Newington Bike and Cycling Concepts are both excellent shops. There’s a lot of biking all over Hartford – it’s a surprisingly great area for riding and triathlon.
Benadorm bikes in Canton has some seriously fast rides if you like. Also look up bikereg.com they will list all area cycling events. Tues nights at Rentschler Field in East Hartford they have crit races for fun. There’s an A group (good) and B (more casual). Nice change of pace for the legs. Welcome!
Also Friday night swims in summer at West Hill Lake. Info will be on CT Heat site. Any day of the week you will find swimmers at Lake Terramungus as well. Newington Bike has two seasoned IM er’s on staff so they are my new go to LBS.
+1 to Benidorm in Canton. I used to work there as a kid and they have done a great job evolving from cycling only to embracing triathlon. Jan is also an excellent bike fitter.
Thanks very one for the great tips and advice.
Anyone know about any other standing weekend rides for an A-/B+ Rider?
Valley riders out of simsbury are a group of riders that are fast. Google them. I know they ride early Sat (maybe 8am?) and during week nights. I tried to ride with them once or twice and got smoked. Also if you post on CT Heat you will most definitely find riders who fit what you want.
I’m down in Fairfield County, but my buddy (who just did IMLP) lives in Simsbury. If you want some fantastic climb training, head out to the Barkhamsted Reservoir and train your butt off. It’s beautiful and intense. Great area to train, IMO.
