I know that this is way off topic but it is February so what the heck.
I don’t know if you know about Maine Coon Cats but they are definitely the clydesdales of the cat world. Males are about the same weight as a pit bull terrier. They average 18 lbs and can go to about 23. These are the big hairy monsters on the northeast. So, here he is:
See the “M” on his head. We’re thinking of naming him Mavericks after the Santa Cruz surf break; big, powerful, awesome, beautiful. Sounds purrfect ( I couldn’t help it) to me!
Cat posts can have tri content. For one, I’d like for someone to explain to me why I’ve had more than one cat that likes to chew on my hair after I come home from swim practice. Is chlorine like catnip?
Congratulations! My parents had a Maine Coon when I was growing up. Best Cat EVER! He also lived a ridiculously long time, I want to say 18-20 years. But he was so awesome, we were happy to have him stick around that long.
When it comes time for a new cat (assuming I can stop rescuing them from the street) I would definitely get a Maine Coon.

I had a Main Coon. Lord Cheney. Definitely a cool cat. You will learn to love him as long as you let him get his way and pay attention to your body posture when you try to lift him.
My mom has one & he wieghs in at just over 21 lbs (with no fat) as a 10 year-old. Zippy (as in pin head) loves to talk, but gets the mats from hell. Invest in a good pair of scissors & clippers (& do your best to comb him on a regular basis).
Have had one for 5 years. Best cat ever. Behave like a dog and follow me around the house. Dominant pet in our household, boss around our 2 German Shepherds. Quite loud when snoring though!
We’re on our third and fourth Coone cats. First two passed away a few years ago and we replaced them with two kittens (now both over 20 lbs). Very cool cats although every one has been odd in one way or another, such as only drinking by dipping his paw into the water bowl and licking the water off of the paw. Congrats. I only wish they were big enough and cooperative enough to take out for a run.
We had a Maine Coon that lived to 19. When she was younger, she would asked to be picked up whenever we came home. I’d then drape her around my shoulders and she would just lay there while I made dinner, her front legs and head looking over one shoulder, and her back legs and tail hanging over the other. It worked fine in the winter when I wore thick fleece sweaters, but forget it during the summer. She had some strong claws and would hold on tight when I moved around.
SOOOO cute! Congrats! My parents’ Maine Coon, Caesar, is 19 years old and still a kitten. He’s a 25 pound behemoth who loves taking down butterflies.
Have fun with your new pal!
I love Maine Coons! If I didn’t already have too many animals in the house I’d be finding one for sure.
Tri related - How harmful is cat fur on a treadmill? Mine love to sit on it and there is always a fine sprinkling of fur on the belt.
See - anything can be tri related if you think about it long enough.
I’ve got two siberian kittens (pretty closely related to maine coons), both of them have the M also. Cleo is about 4 months and mac is about 7.
Here they are taking a quick cat nap between playing.
Wow, he is a gorgous boy! We are owned by 2 maine coons that are basically dogs in a cat package. We play hide 'n seek up and down the stairs at top speed daily, plus they are big talkers–so much fun. Our boy is in his prime at a lean, muscular 20 pounds and the girl is a delicate 14 pounds, she was the ‘runt’ of the litter. Picking him up, as he is all bone and muscle is just awe-inspiring. Congrats on the new addition and let us know what name you settle on.
