Well it's official, going under the knife :-(

just returned from my ortho’s office and I’m going to need a reconstruction of my shoulder, complete with screws and cadovor tendons.

It looks like a 16+ week recovery before I can even think of getting in the pool. somehow I don’t feel like the bionic man music is starting to play -“we can rebuild him, we can make him better than before”. Right now I just feel broken.

oh well, a couple of beers tonight, research the procedure and I should be right as rain.

Sorry to hear. This was because your front wheel came off? I have been looking at my wheels when I am going 45 mph
down hills and making sure the skewer is not moving.

Think how much stronger you will be for next season!!

Dave

I’ve actually already developed a skewer to prevent this from happening. Who knows, maybe this whole thing will result in fame and fortune;-)

eeek. sending (((hugs)))

was it grade 4?

started as a grade III, but after a couple weeks of letting it heal it will not reduce properly (the clavicle continues to migrate rearward) and I have no ability to lift my arm out in front of me.

apparently, there’s a movie version of Bionic Woman coming out. Right in time for your rehab!

stay strong, operations are a bitch. find a good surgeon and a good PT. Be patient, short term and long term.

Whoa! I’m no ortho, but that sounds unusual for a 3.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Get well soon.

I am sure there is more to the story than an AC separation. Perhaps rotator cuff tendon inury as well?

Peter, get well soon. I am really sorry to hear about your accident. You’ll be back to racing by the time we get back from overseas so we’ll have to do another race!

Peter,
Struck out at the reunion, but with a knife being introduced have asked a broader range of family for someone to see at least for a 2nd opinion. Will let you know if I hear anything.

16 weeks? That’s one hell of a taper. So that puts you about January? Well, there’s you New Year’s Resolution for you. Sorry to hear about the surgery. When are you going in? I bought a portable DVD player for the wife to keep her from going stir crazy. We met with the radiologist today, so we’re moving ahead toward the end of the month. Between you and your dad, you guys should be getting a group rate…

What Bob said
“find a good surgeon and a good PT. Be patient, short term and long term.”

Don’t focus on how long the expected rehab time is. If they put you back right things will be good.

i feel your pain
well I really don’t
but I wish you the best
I bet you could beat me even with a bad shoulder

Dirt.

You’ll do anything to get hugs from tigerchick… But it worked, eh?

Man, godspeed on the recovery.

dude that sucks. I know how hard you worked on your swim and run this year. Hope you heal well.

Good luck. My only advice is to get at least a second opinion and perhaps a third before surgery. FWIW, before I had knee surgery to fix a rugby injury, I had never done a marathon or a triathlon and now I’ve done 8 marathons, 10 triathlons (including 2 half IMs) and the knee has held up fine.

sorry to hear it. would get 2nd opinion. if u need surgery, you’ll be ahead of the norms being in such good shape, really a huge advantage. the pool will be great for rehab when appropriate, and do all 4 strokes for global strengthening…keep us updated on the decisions, if u don’t mind

Perfect advice. I’ve been “rehabing” a knee injury for, oh it’s going on two years now. And it’s not even a major one (or so every professional tells me, even though it’s still here). Progress is what I live for. If somebody gave me a prescription and guaranteed by an act of God that it would take 3 years to finish but at that point I’d have a flawless knee, I’d ask where I can sign up and would just start planning out my 2010 race season. None of us are moribund yet, we have many years ahead of us
