Weights before of after?

I’m adding a bit of strength training to my plan as I go off season workout program. I’m curious if its better to do my lower body workout before or after spin class. thanks

Since i am assuming the spin class is more important then the weights do the spin class first,

Definitely after.

Strength training should complement your SBR. After a workout, your muscles are already warmed up, which will help keep you free from injury. Also, you’re less likely to over do strength training after a workout. My strength training is always the 2nd or 3rd workout of the day, and never the only one.

Always after. Bodybuilders will tell you to do it before but they have much different objectives then any endurance athlete. They just use cardio to burn fat and focus on “the pump.” You don’t want to wear your self out on weights then not have any energy to spin or run. Weights are a complement to SBR plus you can pound the weights after your muscles are warm and your brain is flooded with endorphins from spinning and then really wear yourself out.

On the other hand, doing a good leg workout (squats and such) and then going for a run, is a great way to simulate the rubbery leg feel you get on the first mile or so after the bike… Not a replacement for a brick, but if you are deadset on lifting weights (like I am) as well as training for tri’s, it does help.

You might want to think about doing lower body weight work on swim days

jjoseph and tojunialto are right on… even though I always do weights first, its because i hate feeling dead when lifting and will never be a FOP’er, but if I wanted to focus on tri speed primarily id spin first. with that said, definitely save leg day for swim day, or your off day even
