Got in a decent MTB ride on a lazy-ish weekend. Try to get another workout or two this week, fishing tourney with the oldest this weekend.

I’m ok thanks. My period of no family stresses is over for a while though - sister has some medical challenges - and (less seriously, but still) our dog (who is 14 now) doesn’t always make it through the night without relieving herself!
Triathlon stuff is pretty good - our club has a new coach who is doing a great job I’m running free from injury all year and very grateful for that.
How are your wrists these days?
slowly getting better!

GOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING!
How’s it all going? Badly. BADLY. But I’m here, because you gotta be accountable to your own bullshit, right?!
I just spent a few days down in Florida with my coach and some other members of the tri team. I swam and biked and ran, and it was a good reminder that a) I like doing these things, and b) I am mostly capable of doing these things. I did look at a picture of myself running and think “who is that fat, old, haggard woman?”, so there’s something to work on ![]()
I came back and went to my initial consult with a new orthopedic group, who have referred me for an MRI because they think I have a torn hip labrum. Mostly I’m delighted that someone is doing something so that I can figure out what is causing the pain. @Dr_Tigerchik, I was scouting around to see what the collective ST hivemind had to say about labral tear surgery and I see you had yours done in Portland, so I might show up in your DMs with questions.
Current goals are much the same as prior goals; move more, get work shit under control. I’m adding a more rigorous focus on fueling my body appropriately, which means more protein and less chocolate. I also committed to playing the Weber Clarinet Concertino with my community orchestra in May, which means it’s time to start knocking the rust off.
I’ll DM you the name of the surgeon I saw, who is the best in New England. I’m sorry you’re potentially looking at that as a diagnosis. Make sure they do the MRI with contrast because a labral tear will not always show up on an MRI without contrast.
FL sounds loooovely.
25 days in a row without the unhealthy coping skill! though kind of bordered on using it last night. V glad I didn’t.
3/3 days this week without using it

Hit the stair climber yesterday, manhandled the bass boat this morning to get ready for a tourney with the kiddo this weekend. Maybe I can ride Sunday, but I need to get back in the pool…
Glad both Dr TC is doing well and UK2ME is back. (They’ve been going through more stuff, so I worry about them more.) Missing my updates from Down Under. You hit 50 (degrees) yet?
Trying to get back into things again. Didn’t do much PT in the last few weeks as I felt my shoulder needed some rest. So lately:
Did the whole violin/cello routine at the youth orchestra concert on Sunday.
Working on the course I’m taking, which (so far) is making me feel like an idiot. (I’ll recover.)
Went to the university gym last night and did 20’ on the SciFit upper body trainer; (don’t know if I set it right, as it’s usually pre-set up in PT, and nobody there knew how to use it); followed by 10k on the indoor (10-lap) track: all jogging (no walking), knees were good in spite of concrete underlayer, very slow 78’, but partly because I forgot to eat (<200 cals) during the day.
Going forwards:
Daily(?):
Jog/run 10k (or walk lots); SciFit machine (although right shoulder started acting up during the “run” yesterday); bike trainer; study; home organization/taxes; rental repair; family time/management; better sleep schedule (got to sleep after 6 a.m. last night/this morning)
I have a hard time doing more than a couple of things each day (I spend too long on each), so improving that will be one of my main goals.
(Writing this all down to hold my feet to the fire.)

I am very sad today and angry but I will cope in healthy ways.
I’m sorry you are sad and angry. Available for primal screaming as you need. xo
No 50 deg days now Mike the weather has turned.
Plan was Mon to Fri run every day 30 to 40 mins with 10 to 15 mins up tempo each run. A couple of kayak sessions and 3 bike sessions again around the 30 to 40 mins with 10 to 15 up tempo. Try to fit in 3 easy weights sessions and a short indoor row.
The week so far. Monday flooding rains overnight. No school run as all the roads were closed by flood waters. It stopped raining at 1 pm and by 3 pm I was able to hike out to the east through shallow water and do a run on some higher ground. 6 x 1 min and 2 x 3 mins on trails mostly ankle deep. By 4.30 our road was only knee deep so I carted the bike through and headed up higher and managed 3 x 4 muddy min efforts across 40 mins of riding then waded home. Did a weights session.
Tuesday. Everything clear, the beauty of seasonal creeks it floods quick and drains quick. Did the school run then headed out with the kayak after that for a session in the reservoir, 5, 4, 3 mins fast. Then a session of hill running, 5 x 1.45 and 40 sec hills. Back home to clean up the flood debris before the school pickup.
Wednesday. After school drop off did some strides 1 to 3 mins at the sports ground, grass oval was too waterlogged. Short ride with 5 kms muddy tempo. Busy afternoon, school pickup and builder and electrician in reno’ing the bathroom. Squeezed in some weights.
Thursday. After the school run I did a short run with 10 min tempo. A phone call that some old friends of my wife were coming to stay 2 nights in their $300 grand caravan and another friend coming with them. I headed out on the bike but flatted before I was done. The visitors arrived after the school pickup as did the builder and electrician. I didn’t do my rowing session.
Friday. My daughter was rostered off so no school run for me. An early kayak session of 1and 3 min efforts. Back in time to sort out breakfast for the guests. They were heading off to do stuff in town, phew!!, I didn’t want to have to entertain them. A 10 min uphill tempo run and strides. Weights. Groceries. The builder was back. Granddaughter number 1 and boyfriend arrived 10 of us off to the pub.
Saturday. Early 75 min ride. Caravanners pack up and go. It’s Grandson’s 6th birthday Granddaughter number 2 arrives with boyfriend. The extra friend’s car won’t start. Internet is down. Other friends arrive. They have brought their mountain bikes. It has been a busy week so far.
I coped healthfully. The thing is something that I am literally going through stages of grief with… and that is ok. Today I hit mad!
