Weekend Rant

…so I’m seriously thinking about laughing off all this new bike technology and going back to a basic steel road bike with solid rubber wheels and a wrist watch to keep time. This weekend my new kevlar reinforced tyres flatted twice, my power / speed / cadence / would you like some tea now? thingimagigadget first showed a HR of 220 then 0 then the speed sensor stopped work - my wizbank aero bars worked loose in the middle of nowheresville…AAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - what happened to the old days when as kids we had absolutely no idea we were supposed to lube our chain daily??

I know exactly what you are saying. These new machines are so precise which seemingly makes them very fragile. Maybe we should use the same philosophy I use when purchasing an automobile. I get the simplest model, because there is less to break.

Also managed to shred some bearings in my rear wheel - less than 1000 miles on it…on Sunday!! - my box rims have over 8000 mile on them and never need any attention…

I have had days like that… I’m sorry your having such a bad time. What kind of wheels do you have, Spinergy? I have heard bad things about them.

When I first bought my current bike (2003 QR Tequilo), the LBS couldn’t get my derailleurs dialed in. I am sure it was just because of the initial cable stretching, but I have never had that much trouble. So…I finally just sat down and did some reading and learned how to tweak them myself. Since then I haven’t had a single problem. These new bikes are just so precise, and if something is off by a hair it is like a snowball of problems.
