I am racing the second triathlon of the season here in South Florida. This is my fifth year doing this race. I think I am going t smoke it. Running is working. Cycling sucks only moderately. Swim is OK.
Ive got the first duathlon of the season on sat. 5k trail run/17.5 mile road bike/2 mile trail run. Hopefully Ill do ok, had a mishap with a dog on the bike two days ago so now I have a sprained elbow, some road rash etc…
Weather is supposed to be clear but only upper 30’s to mid 40’s (brrr)
Sunday will be a 10 mile trail run and maybe 25 or so on the bike.
I think I will go through all the old posts and see if I can find those Becca pics…![]()
.
A relatively easy weekend as we’re (me & my husband) now tapering for Boston, and keeping our bike and run miles relatively low, though this is a good time to put in a lot of swim yardage.
I must admit, I’m really glad that my husband doesn’t want to get me “out of the house for 3 days” so he can train. To the extent that we can (he’s much faster than me in all sports), we train together and love it. We do look forward to the rare occasion when the kids go to my ex’s (a non-triathlete, non-runner who resented when I started running marathons and the time I spent training) so that we can train when/how/as long as we want without having to worry about them, but he and I don’t look forward to time apart!
I’ll be there too unless I wimp out due to the weather.
Only 7 miles, I dare you to take off ALL the spacers! Send pictures afterwards! ![]()
Ain’t you funny. I have moved nearly half of them to above the stem, flipped the seatpost head forward, and dropped the saddle a smidge (sorry for the technical term). Result of this moves my saddle about an inch closer to the bars. With all the rain here lately, and other scheduling issues (read: 9 month old daughter), I haven’t had much chance to ride it. We’ll see tomorrow!
Ironman California!
luvmytrek2, ease up on the swimming too. You’ll be surprised how much you use your hip flexors, hamstrings and quads with all that kick. Save it for the Newton Hills in a couple of weeks and let it rip on the Boyleston sprint. Good luck !
Season hasn’t started up here yet. We’re in a no man’s land weather condition between winter and spring. Run and a swim planned on Sunday. Visiting my parents on Saturday since they just got back from wintering in Florida.
My kid is 2. So far, it’s been pretty easy. The way I figure it, God has it worked out so you are only dealt as much as you can handle. As the kid gets older, you’re ready for more. It’s nice now because she’s fairly self sufficient, but she’s sneaky. If you don’t keep an eye on her, next thing you know climbing on top of the kitchen table, or putting on Mom’s makeup, or trying to ride the dog. It’s by far the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced though.
It’s not so much that I want her out of the house. It’s the idea of 72 hours where no one asks anything from me. Kind of like a one man vacation.
Thanks for the advice - you have a good point! It doesn’t take too much to convince me not to swim, anyway… ![]()
Saturday morning my wife and I are doing the Carneros Vineyard Run, a 10K through the vineyards of southern Napa county. Saturday afternoon we drive to Squaw Valley for some spring skiing on Sunday. Roughing it Saturday night at the Plumpjack Inn and Café. Just another wonderful Northern California weekend.
That sign would bring big money on ebay. I had a finance prof in college that had the first name of Bong. He never understood what everyone was laughing at.
Boston is an excellent excuse to not swim for a couple of weeks. Not swimming is a great way to lose some useless upper body bulk too so you don’t have to haul all that cosmetic bulk around the 26.2 miles ![]()
I would love to become waif-like for Boston, then pack all the swim-induced muscle back on for Eagleman in June. However, it’s taken me two years to get what little swim speed and endurance I do have, and I’m not anxious to lose it. Then again, my swim split isn’t going to get me to Kona. Well, but neither will my bike split… or my run split… ![]()
28.6 mile run Saturday - final long run before the Jersey Shore Marathon. Lots of hills (north New Jersey, but the training run is in southern New York). Sunday, any kind of bike I can managed by I think I have family plans with the in-laws.
It’s by far the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced though.
That’s great to know - I think we are about to take a (the) momentus step ourselves within the next year to 18 months, and it scares the whatsits out of me. Every story I hear that it is the best thing makes me less nervous about it.
Thanks, and have a great weekend everyone
Nick
I’ve enjoyed it so much, we’ve got a second due in October. I will say that when the second one comes, my wife is going to quit work. There’s no way we could both work, raise two kids, still enjoy our lives, and sleep.
This is one of my last big weekends before World’s Toughest.
Friday
AM: Easy 20mi spin on the trainer
PM: Dinner party (cooking gourmet food)
Saturday:
AM: 60-70mi group ride (mainly flat with hill work at the end once I go solo) followed by a 5mi run off the bike
Mid-Day: Get adjusted on the bike by my guru Tom Price, followed by an easy 1,000yd swim to loosen the legs up
PM: See Hellboy and do absolutely zero that involves exercise
Sunday:
AM: 11mi trail run (lots of crazy hills to mimic the WTH course)
Mid-Day: Nap or watch old Tour/IM tapes/DVDs
PM: Rest & Read the book on the Badwater Ultramarathon
Lots of training and lots of rest.
