Wedding ring: tungsten/titanium/white gold?

Anybody have any experience with different materials for a men’s wedding band? I went to a jewler the other day and was checking out some of the options, but wanted to see if anybody had any additional info to share.

The options I saw were Titanium, Tungsten and gold. I’m going to be going with something pretty plain, with little to no pattern on it.

Titanium and Tungsten are considered nothing more than a cheap fad in the jewelry industry. Go with platinum if you want a real man’s ring. Nothing compares to feeling the weight of a simple, but classic designed, platinum band on your finger. It is like wearing a perfectly balanced Swiss watch.

Plain gold band … 10ct so it doesn’t scratch too much. Get the comfort fit … rounded on the inside. Engrave it on the inside with your and your wife’s initials and wedding date. Timeless, perfect, classic. BTW, congratulations.

Go with platinum if you want a real man’s ring.

Oops, I must be a pussy.

This is a pretty cool ring but I hear they are hard to come by

Pussy is a strong word. I would say you’re probably more of a priss. Or, you don’t care enough to object to the gold band your wife gave you. Being disinterested in jewelry is much more manly than scouring the earth to find the perfect ring.

platinum is cool. i think that would have my vote. but then, i also have a thing for ti.

I went with titanium back in '02, couldn’t be happier with the choice. It’s a 10mm wide, ultra-thin plain band w/ polished finish. I chose it because I’m not a ring-wearing kind of guy, so I wanted something lightweight but durable. If I had bought something heavy and bulky, there’s a good chance I’d be less likely to wear it all the time. The only time I’ve taken it off in the past 4 years was during IM training and racing, where my fingers shrunk & I risked losing it in the ocean. I bought it from www.titaniumera.com.

i like their men’s rings but not the women’s so much. the simple ones are beautiful.

titanium for me and I love it.

I HATE the feeling of a huge weight on my hands and couldn’t stand any of the platinum or gold rings available. Titanium is cheap, lightweight, durable and all around the best option for me.

Who really gives a crap what the jewelry industry thinks? If you like it buy it and wear it.

My titanium ring looks much nicer than my co-workers clunky platinum one.

my buddy has black ti, it looks sweet

I have a thin platinum band with two iny rope braids in the center that looks classy and cool at the same time. it was $500ish ten years ago; no idea what they go for now.

ok, sounds like its a personal preference thing… besides personal preference, are there any issues with non-traditional materials that I should be aware of?

I guess this is going against the grain but I have a Tungsten band and love it. It is a little heavier than ti (which I like) and the color is pretty unique and masculine. My wife regularly gets compliments on her ring, which I expect, but I am always suprised when a stranger notices my band and asks about it. I mostly like the color - it is a distinctly masculine greyish\silver color that I simply prefered to a bright gold or brushed ti look.

Congrats and good luck!

Oh - you asked about issues. Tungsten cannot be resized. (However, I bought mine from a very reputable dealer and I think they provide a* *free replacement ring if I do ever need a different size). * *Tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal. It is also one of the hardest metals and will not dent or bend. I’ve heard that if a Tungsten ring gets stuck on your finger a hospital needs a special tool to cut it off.

classic yellow gold with comfort fit.

white gold and titanum both look like cheap silver to me. and a mans ring with the diamonds or the extra designs looks…well…feminine.

Brass. That way when the marriage ends you can pound it into a cleat for your eggbeaters and wear it on the bottom of your shoe, which is the right and proper place for that symbol of eternal bondage

Best of luck to you in all seriousness.
