Wearing IM Appearl?

I’ve done an Ironman and I don’t really care what others do. It certainly isn’t an insult.

It is your duty, then, to confiscate the water bottles.

Was it a finisher’s water bottle? No. So the guy’s actually supporting the race by carting its logo around even if they were freebies and he didn’t pay for them (more so if he did buy them) and you’re complaining?

I had a tour de france water bottle once, funnily enough nobody assumed I’d done the race. Tons of the merchandise goes to non-participants, it probably keeps the entry fees down a bit, if not it still helps to keep the races going.

By the way, would you have been as interested if it was for a non-ironman event? It’s just a trademark and a distance you know, there’s nothing intrinsically “special” about an IM.

I was one time wearing this Steelers football jersey and Jerome Bettis came over and ripped it off of my body and said “how dare you wear clothing for a sport you have never participated in or for a team you have never played on”…

It is a water bottle, a shirt or whatever… get over it. If you are doing a IM just so you can justify wearing the M-dot; I think you are doing it for the wrong reason.

Everyone does their own thing…i wouldn’t think twice if someone wore IM gear w/o having done one. To each their own.

OK, so I guess it was a dumb question based on all the smartass replies.

Welcome to Slowtwitch!!!

I think you should confiscate all the Ford Explorers too.
And the Ironman Socks.

I don’t have an issue unless it’s a finisher item for a race they didn’t finish.

The latin translation of “Slowtwitch” is indeed “smartass”…

I’m certainly don’t want to start a s**tstorm or anything but why would this bother you? Would you say anything to the person wearing said apparel? Just curious.

Maybe he was a volunteer?

Ever been to the volunteer party the day after an IM? They throw out lot’s of swag, including finishers tee’s.
