Wear Pants?

I recently left a job where I wore a suit M-F to go to a job where the dress is much more casual. I want to dress casual, but at the same time look sharp (my title is director, and I’m one of two managerial types, everyone else works in the field and is much more casual).

So here is my problem. I have many nice shirts and sweaters and good shoes. I’m struggling with pants. I don’t want to wear traditional khakis because they are too casual. Can anyone recommend a step-up from khakis and a step down from suit pants? What do you wear, what brand. I live in NY, so shopping is everywhere. Thanks for the help.

I’d suggest a collection of well fitted dress slacks. Spend the extra dough to have them tailored properly and you should be able to stand out as upper management without dressing too far over everyone and seeming unaproachable.

This is Slowtwitch after all and even in fashion, we’re all about the fit!

I also won’t wear khakis because they are too casual. I usually end up at Banana Republic. Their dress pants (nice wool) can be had for $70-$90, or as low as $40 if you have an outlet nearby. I keep a nice mix of grey, black, brown, some patterns. They have lighter weight stuff for summer. Their fit seems to work well for me – they have smaller waist sizes and cuts tailored for leaner people.

No, don’t.

I own a few pair of the BR wool pants as well. A nice step up from khaki’.

Listen to Bucky. Also, make sure they are lined.

Kilts are always nice.

Thanks, that is the direction that I’m going in.

Does anyone have any brand recommendations besides BR?

I wear Brooks Brothers shirts and pants nearly everyday to my job due to their comfort and outstanding quality.
