I need to for the health of my marriage. Anyone else have this problem? Any pointers on how to do such? I thought about maybe canceling my ISP but then everyone else in the family suffers.
Are you joking?
I thought about giving it up for Lent, but I knew that although my mind was willing, my flesh was too weak to fulfill that sacrifice.
Oh well, maybe next year.
Paulo.
I think at BT they have a patch you can wear on your skin that helps lessen the craving.
If you are using Explorer just go in and put ST into the list of blocked websites.
Tip 1: Don’t go to ST for help weaning off ST. ![]()
The key to my success was that I no longer have the time to post and then spend hours, days, and weeks defending completely noncontroversial posts.
Seriously, find something else to do, and realize that while this is a great site, you are here constantly because 1) you have too much free time, and 2) this keeps you occupied more than searching for the few depraved URL’s you haven’t found yet.
Never considered it because I don’t have a Slowtwitch problem.
I’m serious pal, I don’t have a problem and I’m completely sick and tired of people saying that basing my self worth on my number of posts, my ST approved aero position, and checking the classifieds every 5 minutes is a cause for concern.
Besides if I did have a problem weaning myself off of Slowtwitch would be tantamount to rehab and we all know that rehab is for quitters…

If you seriously have this problem, then you have to adjust your “interests” in your profile.
“My family, triathlon, medicine, trying to serve mankind the best that I can.”
Looks like #2 has taken over #1? Also, if extended ST sessions are the best way you could figure out “to serve mankind”, you’ve got bigger issues…
Sign on at work or does your wife control you there too?
Brad
I gave up religion for lent.
I can’t. This is like the online support group for the training addiction.
And it’s a nice distraction from homework
I don’t have training partners, I train alone, and my wife isn’t really interested in triathlon, though she swims, bikes and runs for fitness, so this is my only outlet. I CAN’T give it up…sadly!
I’ve done it several times, but obviously it didn’t take…
After a while you realize that you’ve done most of the threads that you’re ever going to want to do (To PC or not to PC, bike fit, swim technique, run technique, seat angle, Newton/forefoot running, disc or no disc, what’s the best front wheel, blah, blah, blah) so one day you just don’t find any threads worth the bother and you go away for a couple of days. After that you come back and read and there’s still nothing new. So you don’t log in for a few weeks or months and then you come back and find an interesting thread, but some jerkweed flames you for offering your opinion and then you just don’t bother for a while.
These days I stop by when I’m bored and nine times out of ten I read the post titles and just sign off. Life is more productive if you don’t waste hours and hours hanging out here or in your neighborhood bar. It’s like crack, the best option is not getting hooked…
Try weaning yourself off slowly. Like how a mother weans a baby off breast feeding.
Start with less regular visits and cut down which posts you enter.
Honestly though, there is serious potential for time wasting on this site.
If you turn it more into a info source thing, then you could use the search option more, and get rid of much of the noise.
A problem I see with the site is the same topics being rehashed. make a list of all that is not good with the site and stick it to your fridge to remind yourself.
Other potential problems with ST…ah
- It is time and energy you could put to training.
- someone might disagree with your opinion so much they won’t let it go and u get abused before the biggest race of your life…
- probably others…
maybe someone else can help with that list.
I only look at the optimistic view.
Currently I’ve gone “cold turkey” when it comes to the classified section…That fourm is up to 515 new threads & 1752 new posts without me!
Its not easy but I just can’t spend any more cash on gear. (At least not this month)

I must admit, I don’t post as much as I used to (although i keep an eye on it) but I suspect this is more to do with the sheer volume of people on the site now and that the second you put a posting up it’s on the second page in a matter of minutes. Its a good thing for the sport but I find that the saturation contributes to a lot of the longer term faces getting diluted which i feel harms the community feel. Thats a selfish observation in what is an excellent site.
