We DO put on a men's only tri

This new post is to separate from the mere speculative thread of why there are no men’s only tri’s because in Pueblo, CO we DO have a men’s only triathlon, the day after the women’s only triathlon. Site limitations in a prior year encouraged us to split the field in order to accomodate all entrants in the Ordinary Mortals sprint triathlon. Interestingly, the women’s race maxes out each year while the men’s race may have 100 fewer entrants. Fundamentally, men seem to want and maybe need the presence of women in a way that women do not (which is NOT the same thing as saying women do not like men). Also, we are a more low-key event, not intense or high-profile. Too, men love to strut in front of women (just a biological characteristic of our species, no judgment involved). Why bother to work hard and sweat if no female is around to appreciate it? I, as an old male, still enjoy an event much more when females are involved. I have never had any female friends express the opposite idea. They are only bothered by the logistics of family/boyfriend competing on a separate day. Just thought some might like comments based on actual experience with gender separate tri’s on the same weekend. Finally, please desist from the name-calling in a discussion, it demeans the name-caller’s position actually. (you know, that “feminazi” junk).

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why the presence of female triathletes would in any way affect my decision to compete in a triathlon.

I stand by the my feelings that if there are no women there, I have no desire to go…I hate sausage fests.

Michael:

I appreciate the accommodation to couples with same day race conflicts. My wife and I look for such features when considering family events.

As to the other “male only race” thread, that was a pretty good troll thought up by a master of the genre. Lots of fun and passion expended there; a great topic for getting the lurkers to post.

Yes that is a men’s only tri but it is paired with a womens only so it is a regular tri, IMO. If you want a true mens only event that men will show up to create the…Hooters Triathlon sponsored by (take your pick) Maxim, Stuff, FHM, Playboy. The best part, volunteers are Hooters wait staff, and the magazine girls, you can’t go wrong and it could be a national series since Hooters are everywhere, if this is started please send a royalty check to me for the idea.
