Just got a call from the team president… cancelled due to low number of racers and high cost of police. The race was on saturday.
Bad scheduling. The vast majority of their non-college athlete base will be at the various clubs’ WF training weekend.

Yup… a lot of things have to go wrong for a race to be cancelled. Pretty big eff up for sure. At least there’s Nationals in 2 weeks… hopefully
Dear Battle in the Bay Participants,
It is with deep regret that Cal Triathlon has decided to cancel the Battle in the Bay Triathlon including the WCCTC Championship, West Coast Team Championship, and Age Group Race, which was scheduled to take place this Saturday, April 5th on Treasure Island, California.
Because of an extremely recent unexpected increase in the San Francisco Police Department???s fee, the Cal team would have lost at least $25,000 on the event. Our board decided that we could not risk the solvency of our team to host a race which has received lackluster attendance from conference schools (ours included) and our local age group racers.
We greatly regret having to make such a decision our race director, volunteers, and sponsors have put in so much effort to make the event happen. We also deeply apologize to WCCTC schools and Battle in the Bay racers who have been training so hard and have been looking forward to this weekend. All athletes will receive a FULL refund of their race entry, either directly from Active.com or by mail. Watch for an email with more information on refunds, as we begin to sort through all of this.
Again, we offer our sincere apologies to everyone who was excited about this weekend???s race. This was a decision which we wish we had never had to make.
Please contact the race director Christi Leong at battleinthebay@gmail.com with any additional concerns.
Good luck to all schools at Nationals and to all triathletes during your season this year.
Regrettably,
Christi Leong
