Being in M40-44, at least I’m not in the last wave like I was a couple of years ago…

I’m in the last wave! Well at least I have a chance at a pink swim cap.
I’m starting to get amped for this race. It’s my season-opener!

Me too!!!
diito. Got butterflies in my stomach when I saw the wave start times… my feet are cold just thinking about it.
I’m getting a little nervous…lets go!
PS: Swim wave 12
Ha, ha. I’ve been surfing every day for the past two weeks. Water’s not that bad when you’re in the heat of the race. Now, I plan to do one training swim in the ocean between now and race day. I don’t look forward to that!
Surfing and swimming are two different things!
Jay
One maybe two for me at the most. Just to get my wet suit broke in and try out the swim cap thing. After Oside am going to get a T1:)
Bob, remember, you can get 15% off buying it through TriSports. Just wait for them to have one of their “free shipping” promos.
I voluntered last year. The racers sure looked cold just waiting for there swim wave to start. The water temp should be warmer then the air temp.
Me too! At least we’ll already be numb before getting in the water (if the weather is anything like last year)!
What are the water temps right now Jay?
Also check out the pro field in the participants section
Men: McCormack, Alexander, Potts,…
Women: McGlone, Cave, Jones,…
Both races are going to be great
Sorry if I’m late to the party on this & it was covered, but why are they breaking up the majority of the male age groups into separate waves? It would seem that at ~200 athletes /AG they wouldn’t need to divide that in 1/2…seems like it’s going to add another element trying to determine exactly who you’re racing against and whether or not you’re even w/ someone or 3mins ahead/behind?
Mike, it’s in the upper 50’s…I’d say about 57. I surf with a 5/4/3, booties, gloves and a hood, but I’m out there at 5:45am every day and the air temp is usually in the upper 40’s at that time. Once the sun’s up, a 4/3 fullsuit and booties is usually toasty…for surfing.
For the race, I’ll be in my DeSoto T1 with a neoprene cap for sure. It’s worked perfectly the last two years in that race. Personally, my feet and hands are fine as my adrenaline is pumping.
Brian, my AG M35-39 has over 400 people registered which would make the narrow start area a bit crowded. I agree though, it would be ideal to see everyone your competing with, especially for those going for podium/slots, etc. Makes it a true time trial - you just have to push to the end, not knowing where people in the other waves are.
Thanks Jay.
I agree an argument could be made w/ >400, but M25-29 is just a shade over 200. Do you know how they are determining who goes into which wave (i.e. A-M; N-Z)?
I believe in past years it has been divided alphabetically by last name.
Gracias! See you there.
Wave 11. This is exciting ![]()
