Waterproof Ipod Cases for Swimming

Anyone use a waterproof Ipod case for swimming like http://www.h2oaudio.com/index.php?

I haven’t used it but a guy at the pool who had one really swore by it saying it was great.

I have, and have used, an otterbox. It worked as advertised swimming laps in the pool, but you need to wear a swim cap to keep the waterproof earbuds in. I hate wearing a swim cap more than being bored to death in the pool. So, I use it rarely.

I just got the H2Audio for a nano. So far I’ve only used it once…with the sport armband. It’s a little bulkier than I thought it would be. It kinda feels like it creates a fair amount of drag…might be my imagination. I’ll have to time myself. It comes with a belt clip. I might try that this week

I hoped it would help pass the time more in the pool and get me to the pool more often. That hasn’t happened yet. I’m more likely to get to and stay in the pool more if I go to Master’s. I’m the type who can’t train (run or bike trainer) without my Ipod so I anticipate the H2Oaudio to grow on me.

It’s easy to use your Ipod controls. The sound quailty is not all that great, but I didn’t have high expectations there. The buds stay in fine, but I don’t see why you have to wear a swim cap. At first, I didn’t notice that there was a left and right and thought they fell out easily and were quite uncomfortable. Once in the proper ears…no problem. Seems like plenty of “slack” in the cord to get range of motion. No feeling of being tangled up.

That’s about it.

i also have the h2audio for the shuffle - it is a bit bigger than i thought it would be as well - and it also came with an armband i never used … i never wanted the wires hanging and knew it would bug me … i just tuck the case and the earbuds under my swim cap and perfecto - it makes 100% difference in swimming - i love it … one of my best purchases & compared to the other ipod cases (for bigger ipods) the nano case was less than half the cost

Just saw this in the ST classified section and remembered this thread.

Thanks for the infor but unfortunately I need a 3rd gen case.

Ive tried it too:
-case works great, though it is big.
-I could NOT get the earbuds to stay in, or remain “hearable” Sound was either nonexistent, or totally incromprehensible.

I switched to a “Finis” which is much more organically designed for swimming, and have been moderately happy with it

I’ve used three different H2OAudio cases (mini, shuffle 1G, and now shuffle 2G) and have been very satisfied will all. Top quality, and excellent customer service. As noted by others, the cases are bigger than you’d expect. I returned the mini case because it was just too big and bulky to wear during a swim. The latest shuffle case (for the shuffle 2G) is the first that’s really manageable. Also, YMMV on the earphones. Sometimes the first generation earphones just wouldn’t seal for me. Music was still listenable, but hardly high fidelity. For Christmas my wife gave me a set of the new advanced headphones (the black ones). Much better all around.

I was in your same shoes a little while ago and wasnt sure that I wanted to risk my Ipod with a case so I looked hard into the Finnis MP3 thingy and saw the new version they came out with, V2 which is basically just 2 little earpieces that fit on your swim goggles strap. I am one not to usually listen to music on runs or rides but when swimming alone boredome is an issue so I gave it a try. The device is pretty small and the sound transfer is very good even without high volume. Quality seems to be very good and the process of loading it and changing songs was fairly easy. I think it holds about 60 songs, but I currently have only like 30 and thats enough for a long workout. I will recommend you look into it and if you are going to use it often then consider it as an option to a case, just for convenience sake, mine never leaves my swim backpack and I dont have to be remembering about another thing to bring to the pool or be bored if I leave it at home.

Peace

I can vouch for the Otterbox waterproof I-Pod cases. We have a couple of them. They keep the water out and enable full access to the controls. Good stuff.

I used an otterbox for about a year. Worked pretty well. My only complaint was that the headdphone jack was slightly loose and the music would get choppy when the jack moved around.

I couldn’t find any reviews online, so I was going to post here for feedback. Looks like I’m going to grab one of the H2O ones from REI. They are $10 on clearance for the Nano. http://www.rei.com/product/761022

Have you seen this: http://www.swimman.com/main.html

It is a waterproof shuffle. No case required. I saw a woman swimming with it at the pool yesterday. Pretty awesome. No extra bulk.

I don’t think that case from REI is waterproof.

I think you are right, Dan. Thanks. I saw it when I was ordering a pair of shoes for my kid and thought I would give it a try. It states right in the description “Compatible with H2O Audio for Video waterproof housing (sold separately).” It looks like just the belt, and have no desire add something to my waist when I could tuck it into my cap or suit. It was late and I fired off the post while I was looking into it.

I went and looked at it to and I was hoping to catch you before you bought it! It sucks getting stuff you think you want but don’t.

I know no one here on the Forum seems to trust Swimman, but I have one and it works great. If your price point is high, I don’t see why anyone would even try anything else. It’s small, works well, and the sound is surprisingly good - I’d say sounds maybe only 10% worse than listening to music above water with my decent headphones.

PM me if you would like more details. I don’t work for the company, but the product is good.

I opted for the Finis SwimP3 v2. The sound quality is quite good, and it’s easy to affix to the goggles. A swim cap isn’t required. Plus you don’t need to put your iPod at risk. The music helps alot on those long, boring swims.
