Anyone have an update?

Yesterday, according to the Sports Commission people, it was 80. More hot weather from now until at least Wed of race week. Little chance of rain. Near 100 again today and 100 tomorrow expected.

Yikes!
Just as an FYI, you can get daily water reports for the Ohio River from the Army Corps of Engineers. They don’t seem to sample or report temperature every day, but a quick glance at the report indicates temps in the mid- 80’s in that region.
Here’s the link: http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/
Good Luck!
Supposedly, come late race week, the temps are only supposed to be in the high 80’s. It’s been like this for almost a month now.
WLKY 32 Advanced Warning Weather Forecast Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Mon
97°F 101°F 100°F 88°F 89°F 94°F 89°F 69°F 78°F 80°F 70°F 67°F 74°F 73°F
I would think the water temps are more affected on whats upstream than local air temp… So depends on
whats happening in pennsylvania with the Allegheny River
and the Monongahela River. And if any significant rain
this week I’d guess(not sure how long it takes that water to get to louisville…
Not sure just guessing the lower humidity (been in the 20’s in memphis this last few days) and clear nights wouldn’t evaporation also contribute to lowering the temps some? Just wishful thinking on my part… sounds good though.
I was beginning to hold out hope that race day temps would be in the 80s but the latest from Accuweather show an upward trend on Sun…:
Friday, Aug 24 More Details
Mainly cloudy and colder Low: 67 °F High: 86 °F
Saturday, Aug 25 More Details Humid with rain Low: 67 °F High: 86 °F
Sunday, Aug 26 More Details Hot with clouds and sun Low: 72 °F
High: 94 °F
.
These long range forecasts are usually garbage and just based on averages over time. The weather will be what it is on race day … so if you’re prepared for hot weather, you’ll be fine. I don’t usually look at weather until 3-4 days out … and even then it can be really off. If you just like to worry, then looking at these daily will help you achieve that!
Does seem like the river will be a bathtub.
Dave
Is it a wetsuit race?
Highly unlikely to be a wetsuit race. It was bathtub-warm last year, as well.
One thing is for sure it is going to be HOT!!
It is August in Kentucky and Ironman Louisville is the hottest race among the North American races.
What amazes me is to see people signing up for this race and then complaining about weather. What else everybody is expecting?
You may have lucked out. Today’s Weather Channel forecast for sunday is 84…very unusual for Louisville in August. However that can change. It’ll still won’t be a wetsuit swim no matter the air temps.
Lucked out, indeed. I won’t believe it until I see the forecast on Saturday, but if it does hold, how great would that be? I’ve been expecting mid-90s and high humidity, and it /could be/ low-80s with enough of a breeze to keep the sweat evaporating?
I’ve been expecting mid-90s and high humidity
well, that’s the norm around here in august. Keep your fingers crossed! ![]()
