Anyone had problems with deep race wheels filling with water? The Real Design wheels came with my new QR tri bike. Does this happen to Zipp and other deep wheels as well?
I did my first standalone 40K TT this weekend. It was raining REALLY hard during my warm-up but cleared by the time I got to the start. I thought for a while that I was about to have a flat front wheel because my bike felt so sluggish. At the halfway turnaround I had a good look at both tires and they seemed OK so I just thought I was a wuss. When I went out to ride again yesterday I found that my racewheels were still full of water! MAN! I think I emptied 300cc out of my rear wheel through the spoke holes. I’ll never know how much that slowed me down, …… 10 seconds, a minute, more! Anyone? I was hoping to go a minute or two faster than I did so I was a bit disappointed with the result. Now I’ll never know …
At least I know that these wheels are not for racing on rainy days!
