Water in my hed

Yeh so last Saturday when I saw a patch of blue sky, during the last tropical storm I tought that I could get in a couple hours of good riding. And exactly halfway into my out and back ride it starts pouring, I can’t see, and I’m the tallest object for miles in an electric storm. Anyway there was standing water all over the road and now my hed 3 tubular has water in the carbon. I got most of it out, but there’s still enough to piss me off.

I just put a new conti on it and am wondering if I should be worried about the water rotting out the casing or softening the glue. Should I pull the tire off and try let the wheel dry out, or will the water just seep through the casing and evaporate.

Also If I pull the tire can I still reglue it and expect to use with confidence as a race tire?
Thanks all.

You can drill a tiny hole or two in the shell near the rim. It will allow the water to escape when the wheel is not moving, and it will be forced out by centrifugal force when in motion.

Just make sure you drill them on the bottom of the wheel.

Seriously - drill them on opposing sides. 2 or 3mm holes are large enough and will not affect the wheel.
