So I finally got around to giving my bike a good thorough cleaning after Ralph’s. (Kestrel Talon, Ult 10) I rotate it upside down in the bike stand so I can squirt some White Lightning into the rear brake cable housing and whatever other housings I could get to. When I get it turned up, water is pouring out of the top tube where the cable housing enters it just behind the stem, about a cup came out. What the hell, it was a wet day during the race and I had gotten stuck in the rain several weeks prior, but I wasn’t expecting this at all. Is this something to be really concerned about? What should I do? The rear brake is really gritty now when you pull it. Do you think I might have to get new housings? If I had known I was carrying all that extra water during the race, i would have brought a straw to drink it with. Thought I’d run it by the experts here before taking her to the shop.

THAT’S a dangerous assumption!
If you got that much water and your brake feels “gritty” it’s probably a good idea to replace the cable and housing.
Yep, you got the same as me. I used to ride through the tropical rain storms in florida to get home at night and i thought I could look after my bike alright. After Ralphs I cleaned the bike on sunday after giving it a quick rub on saturday and left it till this weekend. Rode the bike (2 month old P3) this weekend and the thing starts creaking on the bottom bracket. I thought it was just as intermittant creak but up hills the thing was not sounding good. I pulled the bottom bracket off tonight to 2 supprises. My bike shop had installed a Truativ bottom bracket instead of the FSA one I thought came with the P3. and secondly the bottom bracket was very dirty and needs replaced. Now the issue with finding an ISIS drive bottom bracket in the right size!!! Next time I am buying the frame and building the bike
Not too sure what ever happened to putting a drain hole in the BB shell. All my bikes used to have that and now none do. I noticed my rain bike had a ton of water in it the other day. It has external cables, Phil Wood BB and is Ti so it dosen’t matter much. Also take your clinchers off the rims sometimes. I have found mud and nasty water in the tire/tube area. Some of my rims do that and others don’t.
you could squirt some fish oil down there. It is an anti rust agent for car panels.
