Water Bottle Hygiene

yes it does…

“A dishwasher’s heat can cause harmful chemicals such as phthalates and BPA to leach from plastics that contain them,” says Don Huber, director of product safety for Consumer Reports.

Products labelled BPA-free should still be considered before using in the dishwasher, however. Some companies claim their products are BPA free, yet use similar compounds (such as BPS, BPF and BPAF) that may have similar health effects to BPA.

handwash my bottles immediately after each ride, drop of dish soap and squeeze it through the nozzle, rinse. Never seen mold in my bottles, never had a bad taste… but it’s true that being in CO is the easy setting, things dry fast.

Eventually all plastic will degrade and the plasticizers leak out, so replace my bottles every 2-3 years.

Unless you have a daughter who routinely borrows your bottle, or switches caps around, and it comes back with a glaze of sparkly lip gloss, which is a pain to completely clean

YMMV

Yeah, that’s not something I have to cope with!
