I just discovered an awesome feature in the Forerunner 970 I did not expect. The watch now gives spoken instructions when using mapping. This is really great when you are running in a remote area with navigation. I cannot say enough now much better the total mapping experience is with the new watch. Not sure that alone justifies its mega price. But it is a definite differentiator from other comparable products.
I am also still on my XT 920. It just goes on and on. As the newer Garmins all broke which I had I now have 2 extra 920 XT Garmins so I should be sorted for the next few years. Still the best Garmin I ever owned.
Yep
Great watch, it does everything one needs for triathlon.
Only issue it makes us look like we’re not supposed to get within 500 feet of any schools.
The cost of vanity accounts for like 85% of the triathlon budget anyway, doesn’t it.
The 965 received what, 2.5 years of updates? I’d be fine with the price tag if I new Garmin would support development for longer. Just can’t justify the €750.
Yeah, the 965’s major breakthrough was hardware - the screen. That is when the jumped to the high resolution, 1.4" AMOLED display. Now, AMOLED is common on all the top tier competing watches, but the Garmin’s are still bigger.
The 970 really just got the updated HRM sensor, speaker, flashlight, ECG, and I think the screen may be slightly better. After that, it is mostly just newer software.
So I got my wife an Amazfit Bip 6 as an activity tracker/smartwatch. She will use it for daily tracking and also does some indoor spinning, rowing, strength.
The functionality on this thing is amazing, essentially has all of the Garmin features including brilliant screen, speaker phone, gazillion sport modes, wellness tracking, etc. I was shocked when I was even able to connect it to power meter (BT).
Don’t think I would use it in a triathlon, doesn’t seem rugged enough, but FFS, its $80 and the feature set is equivalent to the high-end Garmin watches. The margin for Apple/Garmin watches has to be insane.
