Washer Sterilize Setting

Anyone have and use the sterilize setting on their washer for workout technical gear? Was wondering if it was effective for getting rid of the funk, or if the high heat would hurt the clothes.

It is far too hot for technical clothes. It will damage the clothing. I have the Samsung washer with the silver care option. It releases silver ions to kill the funk in cold water. Works incredibly well.

was afraid it was too hot for the tech clothing.

If you’re concerned about smell try WIN laundry detergent. I picked up some after reading a post by Fleck, the stuff is amazing and defunkified my nastiest gear.

This is a really helpful thread. I am mostly using a cap of bleach in an xL wash right now, which is effective but I would like to find other options.

I was trying to avoid making a special trip to get something just for this issue. But, it looks like I’ll have to make the trip or order it online. I guess I could buy one of those new washers but I doubt the wife would go for that as the one we have is less than 2 years old.

Yep, WIN works great. It will get rid of most of the funk. Assos clothing wash works really well and leaves a very light, very pleasant smell.

I just got a new washer/dryer combo. Researched them like crazy. Went with Samsung after reading the Consumer Reports and user reviews. One big appeal was the “Silver Care” feature which kills germs/funk/etc. by releasing silver ions in cold water. I thought it was bunk at first, but, several reviews said it really works. I have had the washer for about 3 months and it is amazing the difference in my workout clothing. Good stuff.

Just add a cup of white vinegar (the cheap stuff)
