Washer/Dryer Off Topic-

I read the tread when Tom D was asking about a vacum so I thought I would ask about a washer/dryer combo. I am in the process of selling my condo, I got a full priced offer but they wanted to keep my front loading washer and dryer, which is a Maytag Neptune which I bought a couple years ago. So I will have to buy anoter washer and dryer for the house I bought. I like the front loaders, and am aware that Maytag is going through a class action lawsuit on thier Neptune modles. So my question is what is the best top of the line front loaders out there.

Thanks-

I’ve got a Kenmore Front loader that has been great. Have had it for 3 years with no problems whatsoever. They’re not that expensive and are a no frills alternative to the higher end front loaders. Bought as a pair they can be stacked which is a great space saver.

I’ve had a Whirlpool front loader, can also be stacked. It may actually be a ebadged Kenmore. FWIW, my mother in law just bought a Miele, which is about twice the price. The Whirlpool is quieter.

We just got the fancy Kitchen Aid High Efficiency 3.5 capacity stackable front-loaders. They can accommodate a lot of clothes and will likely get you a tax rebate for their efficiency.

I can’t comment on their durability, but the warranty is top-notch and Kitchen Aid is supposed to be pretty good stuff (basically the upper tier of Whirlpool I believe).

I believe whirlpool and kenmore are manufactured in the same manner and are just different labels. You’ll find whirlpools in Lowe’s and kenmore’s at sears.

I really like my Bosch front load combo - super quiet, super fast, supposedly super easy on the water bill. I know that they get my duds cleaner than the old top loaders.

Bosch makes top of the line stuff. Can’t go wrong with that brand. I never knew what clean clothes were until I used a front loader. Much easier on the water bill and it cuts drying time in half since it extracts so much more water than top loaders.

I just bought a Bosch dishwasher so I will look into the washer/dryer. I also heard someone say consumer reports ranked the LG high in a report.

I have a Bosch washer/dryer. It is a stacked combo with a front load washer and condensor dryer (does not vent outside). Likes: high speed 1200 rpm spin in washer gets clothes pretty dry, which helps the dryer (which is not as powerful as my old Amana vent-style dryer). Condensor dryer means it can be located anywhere and was essential for our loft/condo. Dislikes: The washer pump can get clogged by pennies, easy to fix but a pain. It doens’t handle really full loads very well, always complaining with a error code and forcing me to re-run the cycle with fewer clothes (didn’t do that when it was brand new though). My wife hates it and claims the clothes are not getting as clean, although I haven’t noticed. I don’t understand the soap tray, to fill it would be way more soap than normally used. Does Miele make a washer/dryer? Maybe the bigger Bosch are better than this one seems to be. I have a Miele vacuum that rocks, and a Kitchen-Aid dishwasher and refrigerator that are both just as good as the german stuff in my opinion.
