Was there really that much of a rolldown at Honu for M40-44?

From the results it looks like 29th place in the age group got the first slot?! 5:02 total time.

Is this correct? Can anyone confirm?

There’s a lot of people upset they didn’t go!

Same thing for the M35-39 and many other AG’s. Something doesn’t make sense. I was there for the awards and I don’t remember 28 people turning down spots (or not present) at the rolldown……

Was this for Hawaii, or Clearwater? If it was Ironman then that is crazy, if Clearwater, no big suprise. Probably some slots they cannot even give away anymore…

Likely Hawaii and Big Island spots…

nope, even that didn’t make sense for what was posted. They’re actually sorting it out right now as we speak. check back in a few minutes.

exactly. Lots of Kona residents in the qualifier list.

What’s even more outrageous is that in the same AG (m 40-44) a guy got a slot to IM for going 5:33:31
.

this race was different as it had big island slots and international slots for kona that had the further roll down. International meaning non hawaiian resident…

As others have mentioned, but just adding more detail, you need to consider the fact that Honu gives out International, State of Hawaii and Big Island spots. All 3 get different allocation amounts. The International slots are what you want to focus on and in order to do that you have to obviously check out the athlete’s city/state.

Thanks, Chris

I’ve heard of people actually moving to The Big Island in order to qualify with a slow time since the locals are so weak. I think you have to had lived there a certain number of years, like maybe 3.
