Someone referred me to this, I had never even heard of it. Essentially ppl just finding new ways to completely fuck over their own neighbors and hurt innocent civilians. Nothing new right?
I think an appropiate punishment of anyone caught doing this would be to strip their cloths and put one of those bottles in the crotch. But only after telling them a month ahead of time that it is going to happen. Maybe show them videos of the other people who were caught and had to endure it. I bet you might see a drop in the crime.
This is nothing new. 30 years ago folks put them in mailboxes and would completely flatten the thing back into sheet metal. If I remember right someone in my town was severely injured in that way. Given that, I’m still not sure I would follow the advice in that post by calling 911 if you see any bottle with liquid in it?? Seems like a bit of an overreaction for everyday life.
That’s insane that I never even knew something so powerful could be created with drano and tin foil. I wouldn’t be calling 911 for a plastic bottle in my yard, but if I open my mailbox and there’s a liquid filled coke bottle I’m hittin the deck! Also scares me to think of what I might do to a person catching them in the act. I’m tired of asking wtf is wrong with people, so I’ll just say meh whatever.
You can do it with powdered alkaseltzer and water. Or dry ice. Or liquid nitrogen. One of my favorites is to put dry ice in a mostly-full paint can, seal her up, and leave it next to an object to be painted.
I never harmed property with any of these, unless you count grass in the middle of empty fields. But it sure is fun to make stuff go boom.
Just a side note, this is the same type of trash that meth cooks are leaving road side as well. The only difference is that they are using 2 liter bottles, known as the “one pot” method. They may explode, but more importantly people open up the bottle to smell it and it is all over. Yea, seems like overkill these days but if you are in a rural area and see some of these on the side of the road be careful!
yeah, more commonly reffered to as Drano Bombs. usually (just like in the video) it is high school kids with just enough chemitry knowledge to hurt themselves. The real problem arises when you don’t use enough of one of the ingredients and you have a pressure vessle on the verge of explosion. usually they go off pretty fast. I’ve never thrown one on a neighbors lawn, but can say that the 2liter version is pretty impressive.

We used to make some pretty dangerous shrapnel bombs with the Gatorade bottles, back when they were glass, and dry ice. Drop the dry ice in, seal the lid and leave it…Boom!
that happened once when i was working 3rd shift years ago. we would partially fill a plastic bottle with solid sulfur hexaflouride (and add a little water?), then toss it behind the shop and watch it explode. someone tried it with a 2-liter bottle once, and it didn’t explode. it just sat there, all expanded out like a football.
this was at 5:45 am - 15 minutes before the chiefs & officers started coming in for 1st shift. lots of nervous nervous kids running around, trying to figure out what to do…
We used to launch full soda cans 100’s of yards with a 2.5" PVC pipe carbide cannon when I was a kid. A few Calcium Carbide crystals in water and you get acetylene gas. Throw a colman lantern igniter at the end of the pipe and you have a pretty scary bazooka.
