I need some gear for hot and humid temps. I’m not a huge fan of the wider coverage at the shoulders, and want to find a tank that will keep me as cool as possible. I wilt a bit in the heat. A big zipper is a must. I’ve seen the Zoot tank, nice cut, nice zipper, but the fabric seems kinda thick. Any similar tanks out there that have a mesh back? Or is mesh no cooler anyway?
The Descente Aero X top seems to be right, nice and thin, but one size is super tight, the one up from that a little loose.
I’ve done some web searching, but can’t really tell what works best when it’s toasty out there.
I’d like to hear what you folks choose for thse kind of conditions.
If you like the Descente I’d go with the small one. My favorite top is a Sugoi Wireless in size small (I’m 5’11", 155). Everytime I put it on I’m afraid of ripping it, but once it’s on it’s pure gold. There’s nothing worse than a loose tri-top.
I was just thinking about this last week. We got a pretty good heat wave going on, low 90’s, and I busted out the sleeveless jersey and was rewarded with totally fried shoulders. I could feel myself getting burnt about two hours into the ride and started to think that a full body suit would be best. Yes, a full body skinsuit that was moisture wicking and had a solar-reflective type of surface would be optimal for extreme temps and when the UV rays are strongest. Certainly somebody has an aluminum-looking skin suit out there that fits this description, maybe Cippo?
Take a look at the 2005 Craft line of clothing- good stuff.
Do you have either the Training Top or Race Top by any chance? Those look a little wide on the shoulders, but might work. Wonder which is cooler (the training top has mesh in back).
