Wanted: Half IM races

I haven’t done my homework. I’m looking for 1/2 IM races that are:

  1. Races that have good road the whole 56 miles.
  2. Races you can sign up the same day you arrive.
  3. Races without TNT people or college brats.
  4. Races without prayer service or even, if possible, national anthems.
  5. Decently priced on the low side.

There are probably a few other criteria but you get the idea.

Musselman (so far - don’t tell anyone!)

Diamondman

ok man?

Musselman, NY.

I was hoping for some races on the west coast actually…

there is the Calvi Long Distance in France…Corsica to be precise…entry is free, scenery is awesome…unfortunately, the company doing to med crossing is on strike and the race is seriously in trouble! anyway, maybe you are looking for something closer? (but the rest of the criteria were all satisfied!)

I’d say 1 is probably easy to find, 2 gets a bit harder, 4 not that sure,3 and 5 forget it!

If I may ask, why no prayer service or national anthem?

RP

Oh no, here we go…

Big Kahuna, Santa Cruz CA
.

It needlessly excludes people who don’t have similar beliefs. You wouldn’t want to listen to some mumbo-jumbo voodoo chants and then be stuck listening to a national anthem about how some communist state is the greatest.

I’d rather not see the local versions of that crap foisted on me.

I don’t want to get off topic here in the forum. I can deal with it if I must at a race. However I’d rather the races remain untarnished and on topic. It makes them much more enjoyable.

No, I don’t want this to turn into one of “those” discussions at all. I’m just curious. But then again, maybe it’s inevitable if those two criteria are posted publicly.

RP

Hmmm.

Napa Valley half 5/15 (short notice). Hilly course but nice roads. CaliMan (Davis) nice flat course but could be hideously windy…

Big Kahuna might sell out, but it’s a great race. Why not plan ahead?

They are not on strike anymore. I would love to do that race. Next year maybe, but it is a bit early for me in the season.

The Echo challenge 15 minutes from Park City, UT. They had about 300 for the Sprint and Oly last year, can’t imagine it would get much bigger this year. $110. The bike is out on a service road through Echo Canyon, the last time I did the ride I was passed by 1 motorcycle and two trucks in 2.5 hours, about 1k ft in elevation. The run is on a dirt rail trail around a res.

Musselman in Geneva NY
.

This new one looks promising. In far northern Cali and the price is right.

"I don’t have much desire for racing. Many people ask which races I train for. My answer is always “none”. I like doing this stuff as a way of life. However when emails circulate including prices I’m shocked. I wonder who pays for this stuff. And I do think the prices are way over the top. "

Why the change of heart? Or are you trolling with your no prayer or national anthem line?

We do both the US and the Canadian National anthem…sort of cross border welcome community kind of thing (especially since Steve King is our announcer
.

I think the prices are way over the top. However I need some breaks from the grind and I’m not willing to plan ahead. So I want a list of “races” I can do on a moments notice. They are called “races” but in my mind they are simply quick get-away vacations planned out for people like myself.

I’m never a troll. I simply say things as I see them.

The Whirlpool Steelhead Triathlon - go to www.steelheadtriathlon.com Great race - great roads -no prayer, but did sing the national anthem last year, when the real singer did not show up! I’m the RD, so please tap back with any questions. Z
