At a meet my son’s team went to last month in Maryland, a 14 year old girl went 4:35.14 in the 500 free. Broke a 33 year old National Age Group record - by 4 seconds.
She also went 9:29 in the 1000.

Nope. Didn’t make me feel any slower than I already am. I bet i could beat her on the bike though. ![]()

At an Irongirl sprint triathlon in Irving, Texas, a few years ago, a teenager beat Desire Ficker in the swim by a good two minutes. As expected, the race swung favor a short while into the bike. Still, the teenage girl had a nice-looking run coming across the finish.

No doubt. At Rev3 SC Oly race one guy swam the 1500m in 14:09 (college kid). I ended up beating him by 16 minutes at the end. Color me unimpressed.

yea, being mediocre at 3 sports is much better than being great at one!
Damn - thus ends my 35 year run of being faster than any girl in the 500.
Yeah no kidding, I’m sure they were only doing a tri for fun and isn’t really train for it. Or maybe you’re just a total badass!

If your goal is to be a triathlete. I have no doubt this girl will do big things in the pool and we may even see her in the Olympics with those times.
Andy Potts has won the swim at Kona for what, 3 years in a row?
My point was that those times are impressive. Not everyone wants to be a triathlete.
Heck I think it’s impressive for 300yd…lol.
I’m totally impressed with single sport accomplishments like this. They are simply remarkable.
If I’m racing a triathlon, while still impressive, it really isn’t the point to conquer one sport. I had an Oly race this year were a girl caught me on the run that I was friends with. She’s an ex CC girl and super fast runner …she commented as she passed me…“Pick it up Dusty”…I gave her a wave…then, as she turned around for her second loop and I was heading to the finish, I couldn’t help but giggle a bit…I finished 19 minutes ahead of her…
Its so funny (sad) that the “adults” on this forum could be so insecure that they would belittle the accomplishments of a 14 year old kid.

You must have seen some posts that were subsequently deleted, since I can’t see a single post that belittles her accomplishments. Unless you count the joke that someone could beat her on the bike as belittlement. That’d be one, as in singular.

I’m not belittling her, or maybe I am in that she doesn’t need to go anywhere near that fast to make me feel slow in the pool. A 7:00 500 is still faster than me…

Her 500 time is 1 second off Katie Hoff’s record for 15/16 and 4 seconds off Ziegler’s 15/16 1000 record. Not bad for a 14 yr old!
I don’t need any help in feeling slow in the pool. I will feel slow enough in a few hours during my Friday evening swim.

Your screen name explains things.
With time, someone who can swim like that could obtain your bike speeds. But if you didn’t grow up a fish, you will never hit those times in the pool - and most of us who grew up fish won’t, either.
